In his fourth season with the Ohio State Buckeyes, left tackle Austin Siereveld faces a pivotal moment in his college career. While he provided solid protection for quarterback Julian Sayin during an undefeated regular season, the Buckeyes' offensive line struggled in key moments, particularly in their 13-10 loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship and a 24-14 defeat against Miami in the Cotton Bowl Classic. Siereveld, unfortunately, was at the center of these struggles.
Against Indiana, Siereveld's performance was marked by a 58.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus over 57 snaps. In the matchup against Miami, he allowed five pressures in the first half alone, accounting for over a quarter of the team's total pressures. Clearly, there's room for improvement, and it's crucial for the Buckeyes' success.
Garrick Hodge from Bucknuts highlighted the importance of Siereveld stepping up his game. If Siereveld can elevate his performance to be considered a top draft pick for the 2027 NFL Draft, Ohio State's offense could be a formidable force.
"The Buckeyes' offensive line didn't quite meet expectations in their last two games," Hodge noted. "With a challenging schedule ahead, the team is counting on the experience of their returning linemen, including Siereveld, to drive the necessary improvements."
Siereveld's versatility as a lineman is well-known, shifting seamlessly between positions. However, his focus must be on excelling at left tackle to bolster Ohio State's championship aspirations and his future NFL prospects.
Head coach Ryan Day has emphasized Siereveld's role, and now it's up to the Lakota East standout to anchor the offensive line. His performance will be crucial for ensuring the success of Arthur Smith's aggressive offensive strategy as the Buckeyes aim for a comeback season.
