With the College Football Playoff just around the corner, the Ohio State Buckeyes are laser-focused on their upcoming New Year’s Eve clash in the Cotton Bowl. But while the spotlight is firmly on the postseason, Ryan Day and his coaching staff haven’t let up on another crucial front: recruiting. And this week brought more momentum on that front, with Ohio State continuing to make waves in the 2027 class.
Buckeyes in the Mix for Five-Star RB David Gabriel Georges
On Monday, Ohio State got another recruiting win-not a commitment, but a key inclusion. Five-star running back David Gabriel Georges out of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, released his updated list of top schools, and the Buckeyes made the cut. That’s no small feat considering the competition: Georges also listed Georgia, Auburn, Miami, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss.
Ohio State’s been in the mix for Georges since offering him back in August 2024. Since then, the relationship has only grown stronger.
He’s made multiple trips to Columbus, including one for the Buckeyes’ season opener against Texas. That visit left a lasting impression, both in terms of the on-field product and the overall atmosphere surrounding the program.
A big reason for Ohio State’s strong position? Running backs coach Carlos Locklyn.
The connection between Locklyn and Georges has been steady and consistent, which matters a lot in a recruitment that’s still got a long way to go. While Georges hasn’t set a date for his next round of cuts, it’s expected he’ll trim his list again in the spring or summer before locking in official visits.
As things stand, Ohio State is in a great spot and will continue to make Georges a priority in what’s shaping up to be a loaded 2027 cycle.
Georges currently ranks as the No. 2 running back in the 247Sports Composite, the No. 13 overall player in the country, and the top-ranked recruit in Tennessee. He’s a game-changer, and the Buckeyes are clearly in the thick of the race.
Four-Star ATH Legend Bey Signs with Ohio State
While the Georges recruitment is still unfolding, another major domino officially fell for the Buckeyes on Monday. Four-star athlete Legend Bey, out of Forney, Texas, officially signed with Ohio State, capping off a wild and dramatic recruitment.
Bey’s journey was one of the more talked-about stories of this recruiting cycle. He originally committed to Tennessee back in late June.
But Ohio State never stopped pushing, and a November visit to Columbus flipped the momentum. Bey decommitted from the Volunteers and pledged to the Buckeyes-only to flip back to Tennessee during the early signing period.
That twist raised eyebrows, and soon after, speculation surfaced that the decision may have been influenced by family dynamics. At just 17 years old, Bey couldn’t sign without parental consent.
But the saga didn’t end there. He was later spotted wearing Ohio State gear during high school practice, and last week he formally requested a release from his National Letter of Intent with Tennessee.
That request was granted.
Now 18, Bey made it official on Monday, signing with the Buckeyes and putting an end to one of the most dramatic recruitments in recent memory.
Bey, who plays quarterback in high school, is being recruited by Ohio State as a running back. He joins in-state three-star RB Favour Akih as the two backs in the Buckeyes’ 2026 class. Bey is ranked as the No. 9 athlete in the country, No. 175 overall, and the No. 24 recruit in Texas-a state that continues to be a key pipeline for Ohio State.
Buckeyes Trending for 2027 Four-Star EDGE Rashad Streets
With Bey now officially in the fold, Ohio State can turn even more attention to the transfer portal and the 2027 recruiting class. The Buckeyes already have eight verbal commitments in that cycle, and they’re eyeing more.
One name to watch? Four-star edge rusher Rashad Streets from Millbrook High School in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Streets recently named Ohio State as one of the schools making the biggest impact in his recruitment. He’s also hearing heavily from Tennessee, Oregon, Alabama, and South Carolina, so the competition is fierce.
But Ohio State might have an edge-literally and figuratively-thanks to four-star linebacker Quinton Cypher. Cypher, a current Buckeye commit, is also Streets’ high school teammate. Since his own commitment, Cypher has taken on the role of peer recruiter, and he’s been actively working to get Streets to join him in Columbus.
It’s still early in the process, but Ohio State’s in a strong position with Streets, who brings the kind of length, athleticism, and motor that you want off the edge in today’s game. If the Buckeyes can land him, it would be another big-time addition to a class that’s already gaining serious traction.
As the Buckeyes prepare for their biggest game of the season, the recruiting trail hasn’t cooled off one bit. From securing a long-sought signature in Legend Bey to staying in the hunt for elite 2027 talent like David Gabriel Georges and Rashad Streets, Ohio State is proving once again that success on the field goes hand-in-hand with relentless work off of it. The Cotton Bowl may be the immediate focus, but the foundation for the future is being laid right now-and it’s looking strong.
