Illinois 2027 guard Jaxson Davis spent the past weekend on an official visit to Ohio State, giving the Buckeyes a closer look at one of the most decorated young guards in the country.
Davis, a 6-1, 180-pound native of Gurnee, Ill., has already built a rare résumé at Warren Township High School. After three seasons there, he has moved to Monarch Academy in Kansas City for his senior year, a change that will put him in the EYBL Scholastic and against some of the nation’s top prep programs.
The left-hander’s high school run has been loaded with production and hardware. In 2024-25, Davis became the first sophomore to win the Illinois Mr.
Basketball award, then followed that by winning it again as a junior. As a freshman in 2023-24, he put up 19.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.5 steals per game and earned first-team all-state honors from both the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and the Illinois media.
Warren finished 31-5 and reached the state semifinals that season.
His sophomore year was just as impressive. Davis averaged 19.5 points, 4 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.8 steals while helping Warren reach the IHSA Class 4A state championship game.
In that title game, he had 17 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals in a 55-54 loss to Benet Academy. Warren ended the year 26-11.
This past season, Davis stepped up again, averaging 23.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.5 steals as Warren went 30-4. The team’s 2026 Class 4A IHSA playoff run ended in the sectional semifinals, with Davis appearing limited by a head injury.
Davis also logged time with Meanstreets on the Nike EYBL circuit. In 14 EYBL games, he averaged roughly 16 points, four rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
247Sports lists Davis as the nation’s No. 39 overall prospect, the No. 10 point guard and the No. 1 player in Kansas for 2027.
Ohio State was one of several official visits on his calendar. Davis had also planned trips to Minnesota, Iowa on Sept. 19 and Michigan State on Oct. 1, though he has canceled the Minnesota visit. His offer sheet has already climbed past 20, with schools including Creighton, Arizona State, Boston College, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Purdue, Butler and DePaul among the programs involved.
Basketball runs in the family, too. His father, Brian Davis, played linebacker at Illinois in the 1990s.

Urban Meyer isnt treating Ohio States trip to Texas like a heavyweight mismatch. The former Buckeyes coach called the Week 2 showdown a coin toss after both teams opened the season in impressive fashion, and he pointed to the quarterbacks as the center of it all, with Julian Sayin and Arch Manning expected to carry much of the spotlight when the game kicks off on ABC.
Austin adds another layer to a matchup that already feels like it could swing on a single mistake or a single burst of execution. Texas has been tough at home, and Meyer made clear that the environment will matter, which only raises the stakes for Ohio State as it heads into one of the biggest early-season games on the calendar with little separating the two teams. Ohio State Heads To Texas With One Early Concern Looming
Texas opened the season with a win over Texas State and now turns its attention to a Week 2 home game against Ohio State, a matchup that already carries plenty of early-season intrigue. The Buckeyes, meanwhile, are coming off their own opener against Ball State and will be trying to settle in on both sides of the ball after making changes along the offensive line and defense.
One of the first things Ohio State will have to monitor in Austin is Texas health on defense and in the backfield. Running back Derrek Cooper is expected to miss the game after an ankle injury, and safety Yaheim Riley also did not dress in the opener, leaving the Longhorns with some uncertainty to sort through before the Buckeyes arrive.
