Ohio State’s 2028 recruiting class just got a whole lot louder.
On Wednesday, five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison, the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 class according to On3, announced his commitment to Ryan Day and the Buckeyes. It’s a major win for Ohio State, one that adds another elite name to a program that keeps stacking blue-chip receivers.
Harrison chose Ohio State over Oregon and Miami. The Philadelphia native, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound standout from St.
Joseph’s Prep, is already considered one of the most polished young prospects in the country. Rivals has him ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the 2028 class and the top wide receiver nationally, with his route running, body control and ball skills standing out early.
For Ohio State, the commitment carries real weight. The Buckeyes had been seen as the favorite, but landing the top-ranked player in the class still sends a clear message for Day and new wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton.
It also keeps a famous football name tied to Columbus. Harrison is the younger brother of Arizona Cardinals star Marvin Harrison Jr., who became one of the greatest wide receivers in Ohio State history before going No. 4 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. His father, Marvin Harrison Sr., is a Hall of Famer who spent his entire NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts.
Jett Harrison isn’t shy about the comparisons, either. Earlier this summer, he told Rivals he thinks he’s ahead of where his brother was at the same point.
"I think I'm better than him at this age," Harrison said. "I'm more developed. He had his strengths, I have mine, and we are similar, but different."
The fit with Ohio State is easy to see. The Buckeyes have spent the last decade building a reputation as "Wide Receiver U," producing names like Marvin Harrison Jr., Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Terry McLaurin, Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith.
Rivals’ scouting report points to Harrison’s size, route-running and ball-tracking ability, and says he has drawn comparisons to Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson. Scouts also like how he creates separation and makes tough catches in traffic.
Harrison is now the third commitment in Ohio State’s 2028 class, joining four-star running back Elijah Newman-Hall and four-star defensive lineman Jameer Whyce. And as big recruits tend to do, his decision could help pull more elite prospects toward Columbus, especially at wide receiver.
For Ohio State, Wednesday was more than just another commitment. It was a statement that the Buckeyes remain one of college football’s biggest recruiting magnets - and that the Harrison family name will keep showing up in scarlet and gray.

Julian Sayin Just Gave Buckeye Fans Another Reason To Feel Disrespected
Ohio States quarterback outlook for 2026 is already drawing national attention, and Julian Sayin is at the center of it. With Jeremiah Smith giving the Buckeyes another elite piece on offense, the conversation around this room is less about whether it can be good and more about how high it can climb if Sayin keeps trending the way people around the sport expect.
Still, a recent CBS Sports ranking left plenty of Buckeye fans scratching their heads by slotting Ohio State fifth nationally. The placement only adds to the sense that Sayin is being viewed through a strange lens, even as he has the kind of profile that could put him in position to chase both a championship and major individual honors in Columbus. Ohio State Just Landed A Massive Commitment With Familiar Meaning
Ohio States recruiting momentum keeps building across the next two classes, and the Buckeyes have already stacked several key commitments as they look ahead to future depth charts. The board includes five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou in the 2027 class, while Cortez Hankton, who stepped into Brian Hartlines role on the recruiting trail, has quickly helped the staff add another major piece to the offensive pipeline.
The latest win carries extra weight because it comes at receiver, a spot Ohio State has long used as a national calling card. The Buckeyes are also still in the hunt for other targets such as Monsanna Torbert and Monshun Sales, but this latest addition gives the staff another high-end building block and raises the stakes for what could come next in a cycle that already has plenty of familiar appeal. Ohio State Just Took Another Recruiting Gut Punch Inside Ohio
Another highly rated cornerback from Ohio has landed elsewhere, and for a program that sells itself on controlling its own backyard, that stings. Monsanna Torbert Jr., a top-100 2027 prospect from Cincinnati, had been committed to Indiana before reopening his recruitment, and Michigan worked its way into the conversation after an official visit.
For Ohio State, the loss is less about one player than the pattern it represents. Torberts decision adds another layer to the long-running rivalry on the recruiting trail, where every elite defensive back from Ohio can become a measuring stick, and where Michigans ability to pull one away only sharpens the pressure on the Buckeyes to keep defending their home turf.
