Iowa’s win over Michigan is still rattling around in Brad Schultz’s head, and for good reason.
Speaking on Eleven Warriors, the HawkeyeRoundtable.com writer said he’s still trying to make sense of what unfolded in Ann Arbor. Iowa, as he put it, “just hung around” in a game it “really had no business” being in, then cashed in when the moment arrived. Schultz called it a huge result for the program, and one he figures Ohio State fans probably appreciated too.
That upset has only sharpened the focus on what Iowa is bringing into Saturday’s matchup, starting with the quarterback situation. Schultz pointed to Hank Brown as a player who has grown into the job in a way few would have expected earlier in the season.
“There’s just a certain moxie that Hank Brown has brought over the last few weeks that really should give Iowa fans confidence that he is the guy moving forward,” Schultz said.
He also traced Brown’s rise back to Iowa’s early season moments. At Kids Day, Schultz said Brown did not look like the answer, but he’s fought through rough patches and shown real resilience.
Against Iowa State, Brown was close to getting benched before hitting Tony Diaz on a deep ball for Iowa’s only touchdown. Against Michigan, he opened 8-of-6 and struggled to get much done early, then flipped the script in the fourth quarter by going 13-of-19 with two touchdown passes.
On defense, Iowa is still Iowa. Schultz described Phil Parker’s group as a unit that does not rely on overwhelming pressure but instead lives in the “bend and not break” lane. That showed up against Michigan, where Bryce Underwood was able to extend plays, get outside the pocket and use his legs.
The Hawkeyes’ coaching, Schultz said, is always a problem to solve. He also flagged a wrinkle Ohio State may see, noting Iowa has started to use the 3-3-5 at times. As for the player he thinks the Buckeyes need to know, Schultz went straight to linebacker Cam Buffington.
Buffington leads Iowa with 38 tackles and, according to Schultz, has been the team’s best defensive player this season. He added that Buffington flies around the field and could be part of blitz looks on Saturday.
The setting may be just as important as the matchup itself. Schultz said he has been to plenty of games at Kinnick Stadium, but this one has a chance to be the loudest he has ever heard it. He pointed to the long buildup, the fact that College GameDay is coming to Iowa City, and the wait of 20 years.
“It’s about time. 20 years. It’s pretty hard to believe,” Schultz said.
As for the outcome, Schultz expects Iowa to keep it competitive, but he still likes Ohio State. He said Jeremiah Smith is “just a beast” and believes the Buckeyes wideout will make a few big plays. His rough call: Ohio State by 10, something in the neighborhood of 27-17.

Ohio State Suddenly Has A Lineup Decision That Could Spark Debate
Ryan Day still has one key offensive line question to sort out as Ohio State works through the week, and it centers on injured right tackle Phillip Daniels. Day did not offer an update on Daniels, but he made it clear the Buckeyes will wait to see how Daniels progresses before settling on the starting lineup, a process that could shape how the line looks heading into the next stretch.
In Daniels absence, Gabe VanSickle has held up well at right guard and helped the front continue to play at a high level. That leaves Ohio State with a familiar kind of dilemma: if Daniels is close to returning, the staff has to balance the value of getting a veteran back in the mix against the way the current group has been performing, and that decision is still very much open. Iowa Has A Real Shot To Shake Up The Big Ten Again
Iowa arrives in Columbus with a little more belief than most visiting teams carry into a top-five matchup. The No. 14 Hawkeyes just jolted the Big Ten race with an upset of Michigan, and now they get another chance to test themselves against No. 5 Ohio State. Hank Brown has given Iowa a steady hand at quarterback, showing enough poise under pressure to make the Hawkeyes a real threat if the game tightens up late.
For Ohio State, the timing makes this one feel bigger than a routine conference showdown. Ryan Day has already acknowledged the challenge, and the Buckeyes know how much a win would matter for momentum as the season moves deeper into the stretch. The bigger question is whether Ohio States defense can settle in quickly enough to keep Iowa from turning this into another statement night for a program that has already shaken up the league once. Jeremiah Smith Is Giving Ohio State Fans Even Bigger Expectations
The first month of the 2026 college football season has already made Jeremiah Smith impossible to ignore, and Ohio State fans have every reason to keep watching closely. In a year filled with standout wide receiver production across the sport, Smith has continued to separate himself with the kind of weekly impact that turns a promising talent into the name everyone else is chasing.
His latest eruption only sharpened that feeling, even before the stat sheet fully settled in. Smith put together a performance that pushed his season ceiling in a major way and had the Buckeyes thinking bigger about what his role can become as the schedule grows tougher, with his recent production now setting a bar that will be hard to miss for the rest of the fall.
