Ohio State Fans May Be Overlooking A Back Who Could Matter Fast

Sophomore Isaiah West is set to make a comeback and play a pivotal role in Ohio State's revamped offense after being sidelined by injury last spring.

Ohio State had a few bodies missing during spring ball, and that made it easy for some players to slip out of the conversation. Isaiah West was one of them.

The Buckeyes’ backfield took a hit in the spring Game, with three running backs sidelined by injuries. That group could wind up being the top three backs on the depth chart, which says plenty about how much was unavailable. West, though, is the name fans probably should not have let fade.

He flashed as a freshman last season, stepping into a reserve role and putting together 59 carries for 310 yards and two touchdowns. He also split work with Bo Jackson, who remains the established starter even while recovering from an injury this spring. Jackson is still the more familiar name, but West’s production deserves attention.

West averaged 5.3 yards per carry in his first year in college, and that kind of efficiency gives Ohio State a useful piece behind the starter. He is a solid runner who can handle volume, and the setup around him should be better this fall. The Buckeyes are also expecting the four returning offensive linemen to be much improved after the line was the team’s biggest issue late last season.

That matters for West. A cleaner offensive front should help him turn more touches into bigger gains.

Ohio State’s offense is also set up to put plenty on his plate. With Arthur Smith taking over as offensive coordinator, the run game is expected to play a bigger role, and Smith has shown he can create space for runners. The passing game should keep defenses honest, too, with Jeremiah Smith described as the most dangerous weapon in football and Julian Sayin entering his second year as a starter.

All of that should make life easier for West as a sophomore. He is expected to share snaps because of his talent, but he will still have a real role. The biggest question is whether he can hold off Legend Bey, who stood out during spring practice.

Even with that competition, West should get plenty of chances to matter in an offense that could set records.

Bryce Underwood Just Gave Ohio State Fans Another Reason To Laugh

Bryce Underwood already gave Ohio State plenty to smirk about last season, and the latest chapter only adds to the amusement for Buckeye fans watching from across the rivalry. Michigans quarterback had a rough run in the games that mattered most, including a frustrating showing against Ohio State and a bowl loss that only deepened the doubts around him.

Now Underwood is back in the spotlight after making a bold claim at a youth camp, and it is the kind of self-belief that can travel fast in a rivalry like this. For Ohio State, it is another reminder that the conversation around Michigans quarterback situation is still far from settled, and the next meeting between these two programs will come with plenty of baggage no matter who is under center. Ohio State Nears A Massive 2027 Receiver Decision

Ohio States 2027 recruiting push is starting to take a more defined shape, and the receiver board is one of the biggest reasons why. Five-star Lawrence North standout Monshun Sales is moving toward a decision, giving the Buckeyes a chance to add one of the top pass-catchers in the country as they continue building a class that already has 18 commitments and still has room to grow before December signing day.

The race has narrowed to Ohio State and Indiana, with Sales having also been tied earlier to a broader finalist group that included Alabama, Texas and LSU. For the Buckeyes, landing a receiver of that caliber would be a major statement in a class that is already ranked among the nations best, but the final call is still pending and could come in the next couple of weeks. Buckeyes Face A Pricey Recruiting Test For Elite RB Target

David Gabriel-Georges has already become one of the most intriguing names in the 2027 class, and Ohio State is squarely in the mix as the Buckeyes weigh how far they want to push for an elite running back prospect. The top-ranked back is drawing national attention not just for his talent, but for the kind of recruiting battle he represents, with Ole Miss and Tennessee also involved and the market for premier high school players changing fast.

For Ohio State, the question is no longer simply whether Gabriel-Georges fits the roster. It is whether the Buckeyes want to make a major financial commitment to a true freshman at a position where the return can be hard to predict, especially as the program continues sorting out where its resources are best spent. In a recruiting cycle where every big swing comes with a price, this one could force the Buckeyes to decide how aggressive they really want to be. [Read more 🡒]
