Ohio State Commit Jamier Brown Just Got A Recruiting Snub Fans Will Hate

Rivals' unexpected downgrade of Ohio State commit Jamier Brown sparks debate as other notable recruiting services maintain his five-star status.

Ohio State’s 2027 class took a strange hit in the latest Rivals update, with wide receiver commit Jamier Brown sliding from five-star status to four stars in a move that doesn’t make much sense on the surface.

Brown has been tied to the Buckeyes since November of 2024, and he had held onto that five-star label since then. Even after Rivals knocked him out of its five-star group, 247Sports and ESPN still list him as a five-star prospect. Rivals also now has him pegged as the 13th-best receiver in the country, a steep fall that stands out even more because the composite still keeps him in five-star territory.

The drop is hard to explain based on the information at hand. Brown hasn’t added any new game film lately, so the change appears to be tied to what Rivals saw from him in camp settings.

For Ohio State, Brown remains one of the key pieces in the 2027 class. He gives the Buckeyes another elite receiver to build around, and his commitment is a notable win for Cortez Hankton, even though Brown originally pledged while Brian Hartline was still the receivers coach when he committed.

Brown isn’t the only major name Ohio State is trying to keep and add. The Buckeyes are still pushing for five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, whom they’ve chased for the last two seasons.

They’re also in the mix for Monshun Sales, the top receiver in the class, who is set to announce his decision on Friday. Ohio State is battling the Hoosiers for Sales, and the race sounds tight enough that neither side knows what’s coming.

Ryan Day and his staff are still working to stack more four- and five-star talent into the class before December, when recruits can officially sign with the Buckeyes. And Brown, despite the Rivals slide, is likely to be back in five-star territory when those final rankings come out.

Ryan Day Has 3 Ohio State Transfer Misses Fans Still Feel

Ohio States offseason turnover was already heavy enough to reshape the roster, but the Buckeyes also watched a few departures turn into reminders of what might have been. Among the roughly 30 players who moved on, several names stood out because they left with paths that suggested they could have filled real roles in Columbus, whether as a dependable target at tight end, a quarterback with major pedigree, or another body in a defensive line rotation that always needs it.

Joe Royer, Quinn Ewers and Hero Kanu all found new homes after leaving the program, and their exits still linger because each one touched a different need for Ohio State. Royers development elsewhere, Ewers brief stop in Columbus before heading back to Texas, and Kanus departure from the defensive front all fed the same question Buckeyes fans keep circling back to: how different might this roster have looked if those pieces had stayed put? Ohio State May Be Watching A Pivotal 2027 WR Battle Slip Away

A major 2027 wide receiver race is narrowing, and Monshun Sales has become the name to watch for programs trying to land one of the class elite pass catchers. The Lawrence North standout has drawn heavy attention from Texas and Indiana, with the Hoosiers making a point of leaning on former player Omar Cooper Jr. as part of their push for the in-state star.

For Ohio State, the bigger concern may be less about where Sales lands and more about what his choice could mean across the board. Texas remains active in the chase and could end up shaping the recruitment of another top 2027 receiver, Easton Royal, while the Buckeyes appear to be weighing other options in the class as the board continues to move around them.
