As the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine unfolds, Ohio State's talent pool shines brightly with 11 participants, but it's Max Klare who stands out for his intriguing decision to enter the draft. While Caleb Downs, Arvell Reese, Carnell Tate, and Kayden McDonald are projected first-round picks and expected to declare, Klare's choice comes with a twist.
With another year of eligibility, he could have stayed at Ohio State to potentially enhance his draft stock. Yet, the former Buckeye and Purdue tight end is ready to embark on his professional journey, currently projected as a third-round pick.
Klare's determination is clear. "I'm ready for the next opportunity," he stated during his combine interview.
"I want to compete in the NFL and have a great career." His decision followed thoughtful consideration and conversations, ultimately leading him to pursue the NFL now.
Reflecting on his college career, Klare's transition from Purdue to Ohio State was marked by adaptation and growth. At Purdue, he caught 51 passes for 685 yards and four touchdowns in 2024.
His numbers dipped slightly at Ohio State, with 43 receptions for 448 yards and two touchdowns, but the experience was invaluable. Competing against a defense stacked with future first-round picks honed his skills daily.
"It was awesome," Klare said of his Buckeye tenure. "Facing top-tier talent like Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs every day made me better. I'm grateful for that experience."
At Ohio State, Klare embraced versatility, taking on various roles from wide receiver to in-line tight end, even lining up at running back. This adaptability, he believes, has made him a more complete player, ready to tackle the NFL's challenges.
"I accepted my role and focused on the team's success," Klare explained. "Ohio State was successful, and I was fortunate to contribute in any way I could."
As he prepares for the combine's tight end workouts, Klare's goal is straightforward: earn the trust of his future NFL coaches and teammates. "I'll show up every day with the mindset to improve," he pledged.
His journey from Purdue to Ohio State has equipped him well for the leap to the NFL. "It's a similar transition," Klare noted. "That experience gives me a good idea of what to expect at the next level."
Max Klare is poised to take his next steps with confidence, ready to prove himself in the NFL and continue his trajectory of growth and success.
