Ohio State’s recruiting run picked up another jolt with four-star defensive lineman Karlos May announcing for the Buckeyes, and the ripple effect could reach all the way to five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.
May’s commitment gives Larry Johnson another major addition on the defensive side, but the bigger picture for Ohio State may be what comes next. Georges is set to make his college decision on July 22, and the Buckeyes are still very much in the mix as they try to keep the momentum rolling.
Right after choosing Ohio State, May made it clear what sold him on the program. “It's just a good fit for me,” May told Rivals right after letting the world know he's Ohio State-bound. “I just like the development, I just like the people around me, and I just feel like this is going to be the best option for my future, and making it to the next level.”
That message matters because May has leaned on development before as a reason Ohio State stood out to him. He had also been considering Florida State, Georgia, and Auburn, but the Buckeyes had been trending for him in recent weeks.
The new Ohio State pledge is no small pickup, either. May is ranked the No.
11 DL in the country per the 247Sports rankings and the No. 120 player nationally in the 2027 class. Rivals lists him as the No.
7 DL in the 2027 Rivals300. The 6’3 305 DL picked the Buckeyes over Auburn, Florida State, and Georgia.
He also said he expects to arrive ready to work. “They're (Ohio State fans) getting someone who will be ready to come in and learn from the guy who's in front of him,” May said. “I'll be ready to go and get developed, and hopefully make an impact as a freshman.”
Now attention shifts to Georges, who has Ohio State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss left on his list. Tennessee is pushing hard too, with Josh Heupel working overtime in the recruitment, but Ohio State remains the favorite to land another big piece.
Georges is the No. 2 running back in the country, so if the Buckeyes can close there as well, the celebration in Columbus could get even louder.

Ohio State's 5-Star Miss May Set Up An Even Bigger Win
Monshun Sales choosing Indiana was a clear recruiting miss for Ohio State, but it may also have sharpened the Buckeyes next move. With the five-star defensive target off the board, attention has shifted to running back David Gabriel Georges, one of the top backs in the country and a prospect Ohio State has been pressing hard as the class takes shape.
Gabriel Georges is also being pursued by Tennessee, which makes the race more than a routine follow-up after one setback. Still, Ohio State appears to be in a strong position and could even adjust its NIL approach now that the Sales pursuit is over, a sign the Buckeyes are treating this as a chance to turn one loss into a bigger gain. John Mobley Jr. Is Suddenly At The Center Of Ohio State's Biggest Need
John Mobley Jr. is starting to look like more than just a rising junior for Ohio State. With Bruce Thornton gone, the Buckeyes have a leadership gap to fill heading into the 2026-27 season, and Mobley has begun stepping into that space during summer workouts. Chris Diebler has noticed the shift in practice, where Mobleys energy and voice have stood out as the team works through drills and starts building a new identity.
For a roster that needs someone to organize, direct and steady things on the floor, Mobleys role is becoming a central part of the conversation. He has been active with teammates throughout practice, setting the tone and taking on responsibilities that usually come later for a player his age. The question now is how far that growth goes once the Buckeyes move from summer sessions into a season that will ask even more of him. [Read more 🡒]
