Indiana Nears A Program-Changing Recruiting Decision Fans Have Been Waiting For

Five-star wideout Monshun Sales edges closer to his much-anticipated college choice, narrowing selections and intensifying speculation.

The final stretch of the 2027 recruiting cycle is about to get a lot clearer.

Monshun Sales, the five-star wide receiver from Indianapolis Lawrence North and the top uncommitted prospect in the country, will announce his college decision on Friday, July 17, on the Pat McAfee Show. His list is down to Alabama, Indiana, LSU, Ohio State and Texas, and his camp says the race is still live because NIL talks remain active with all five programs.

Sales is one of the biggest names left on the board. The 6-foot-5, 201-pound receiver is ranked No. 8 overall in the 2027 class on the Rivals industry rankings, while 247Sports has him as the No. 1 receiver nationally and the top player in Indiana. With five-star cornerback John Meredith III recently committing to Texas, Sales is now the last blue-chip prospect of his level still available.

The production matches the hype. Last fall, Sales caught 37 passes for 794 yards and nine touchdowns for Lawrence North, and he added 56 tackles on defense. He also runs track for the school, which has only added to the buzz around his explosiveness and vertical ability.

Charles Power of Rivals described his game in April by writing that Sales "has the potential to take the top off of defenses with regularity" and "shows quality tracking skills, locating the football over his shoulder."

Even though five schools made the final cut, the picture has sharpened. Steve Wiltfong of Rivals said on a recent Inside Scoop episode that Sales is effectively down to Indiana and Texas.

Indiana has been the Rivals Prediction Machine favorite for much of the year, and Curt Cignetti’s program has plenty to sell. The Hoosiers are the defending national champions, and former Lawrence North teammate Omar Cooper Jr. was just taken in the first round of the NFL Draft after developing in Bloomington.

"The Hoosiers have prioritized him; obviously, they're the defending national champs," Wiltfong said. If Sales lands with Indiana, it would be a program first. The Hoosiers have never signed a five-star out of high school, and he would immediately become their highest-rated recruit.

Texas is making a strong run of its own. Wiltfong pointed to the Longhorns’ ability to develop receivers and their recruiting power in the current era. "They have a schematic advantage week in and week out most of the time, and then Texas has the resources to recruit a guy like Monshun Sales in this modern recruiting era," he said.

The Longhorns’ momentum has picked up late, and some sources think Steve Sarkisian’s staff may end up closing. Texas already has a commitment from another five-star receiver, Easton Royal, and adding Sales would give Austin the two best wideouts in the entire cycle, though LSU is still trying to flip Royal.

Alabama can’t be ruled out, either. Sales grew up in the Birmingham area before his family moved to Indiana, and the Crimson Tide hosted him for an official visit in May while also pitching a future pairing with No. 1 quarterback commit Elijah Haven.

The wait ends on Friday, July 17, when Sales reveals his decision live on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show between noon and 2 p.m. ET.

Ohio State Nears A Massive Recruiting Decision Fans Wont Ignore

Ohio States 2027 recruiting class is already built around elite talent, with three five-star commitments and a national ranking that has the Buckeyes sitting ninth overall. The staff is still pushing to add at least two more five-stars before Signing Day, and one of the biggest names left on the board is David Gabriel Georges, along with receiver Monshun Sales, whose recruitment has become one of the more closely watched storylines in the cycle.

Sales has set a July 17 commitment date, giving Ohio State a clear marker as it tries to keep momentum going with a class that still has room to climb. The Buckeyes are in the mix with several other programs, but this one carries extra weight because of where Ohio State stands now and how much a win there could change the feel of the class heading into the fall. Ohio State Awaits Final Word In Massive WR Recruiting Battle

Monshun Sales has put a date on one of the more closely watched recruiting calls of the summer, setting his announcement for Friday, June 17, with the reveal coming live on the Pat McAfee Show. The five-star wide receiver has been one of the top names on the board for a group that includes Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Indiana and LSU, and the race has stayed tight enough that no one around the recruitment has been willing to call it early.

For Ohio State, the timing matters because the Buckeyes have remained in the thick of it as the final decision approaches, with late momentum still part of the conversation. Alabama got an early boost tied to his nickname, Indiana has long carried the hometown pull, and Texas has stayed firmly involved, leaving the Buckeyes waiting along with everyone else for the final word on a target who could reshape the top end of the receiver class. Carnell Tate Is Already Fueling A Debate Titans Fans Can't Ignore

Tennessees early buzz around Carnell Tate has only grown since the Titans used a premium pick on the Ohio State receiver, and Robert Saleh has wasted no time signaling how much the team thinks of him. Saleh has talked up Tates development and importance to the offense, pointing to a player who already looks like a meaningful part of the plan rather than a long-term project.

The surprise came as much from the draft slot as the selection itself, with Tate going far earlier than many around the league expected and even drawing some surprise from the receiver himself. For the Titans, though, the bigger issue is how quickly a young wideout can become part of the conversation around Cam Ward and the offense, especially when the expectations attached to that kind of pick are this high.
