Garrett Wilson didn’t need to see the full mess in real time to know exactly how he felt about it.
A few days after Michigan’s controversial Week 1 win over Western Michigan, the former Ohio State receiver made it clear he wasn’t shocked by how things played out. Speaking to the media for the first time since the game, Wilson was asked about the ending and wasted no time taking a shot.
"I didn't watch it. I was watching tennis, honestly.
But it don't surprise me, them getting the nod on some BS. It's too bad it wasn't their (the MAC) refs on the game.
The game has been a talking point all week, with fans still angry over the Big Ten’s explanation for why the ending unfolded the way it did. Even after the result, Michigan dropped out of the top 25, a sign that pollsters treated the whole thing like a loss anyway.
Wilson’s comments fit right in with the way Ohio State fans have reacted. He played for the Buckeyes during the height of Michigan’s cheating scandal, and he didn’t sound like someone willing to give that program the benefit of the doubt now. The frustration has only grown since the controversy, and the temperature around the rivalry is still rising.
While Michigan tries to steady itself in Week 2, Ohio State has bigger business ahead.
The Buckeyes are locked in on fourth-ranked Texas, a game that could send a loud message about their national title chances.
