Arch Manning Expected To Transfer - Ohio State Lurks

As pressure mounts and experts weigh in, Arch Manning faces a pivotal decision on whether a transfer could lead to greater success beyond the Texas ranks.

Calls for Arch Manning to leave Texas are getting louder, but the Longhorns aren’t changing course at quarterback just yet.

The latest wave of speculation picked up after former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky posted that Manning should move on. “Arch should definitely go back to school (as of right now) and definitely not at Texas,” Orlovsky said on social media this morning.

That wasn’t the only take making the rounds. Sports Illustrated’s Gene Wojciechowski floated Indiana as a possible next stop, pointing to what head coach Curt Cignetti did with No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza in 2025.

“I’m not saying it hasn’t worked out, but could it work out better someplace else, given what Curt Cignetti has shown, is it Indiana?” he questioned.

Pat Forde quickly added to that idea, saying it could be a “one year rocket ride” for Manning to the top of the draft board.

CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco also suggested Manning could move on, while former NFL general manager Ran Carthon mentioned Miami as another possible landing spot.

At Texas, though, the message from Steve Sarkisian was clear enough: Manning is still the starter. The Longhorns are also expected to give redshirt freshman KJ Lacey Jr more first-team quarterback reps in practice this week, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

That comes with Sarkisian saying Monday, “Arch can play better for us; he’s our starter, but I need to see a better version of Arch Manning,” Sarkisian said Monday. “Like I need to see a better version of a lot of guys on our offensive football team right now. We need to see a better version of him this week.”

Through six games, Manning has completed 63.9% of his passes for 1,295 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also been sacked 17 times, a sharp spike from the 23 times opposing defenses got to him across the entire 2025 season.

Texas, ranked No. 19, hosts No. 7 Ole Miss on Saturday night.

Ohio State Now Faces A Huge Offensive Reset After Indiana

Ohio State walked out of Indiana with a 19-15 road win that snapped the Hoosiers 22-game unbeaten streak at home, but the bigger takeaway for the Buckeyes came after the final whistle. Julian Sayin left the game with an injury and is expected to miss several weeks, leaving Ohio State to rework its offense at a point in the season when continuity matters most.

Luke Fahey is now set to make his first start in Sayins place, and that changes the look of everything around him. The Buckeyes can lean on a defense and special teams that still grade well in the national and Big Ten statistical rankings, but the offense now has to absorb a major reset while the staff waits for more clarity on Sayins recovery. Ohio State Suddenly Faces A Backfield Question Fans Wont Ignore

Ohio States backfield took a hit this week when JaKobi Jackson had surgery for a Lisfranc injury in his foot, putting him on the sideline for at least the next several games. The Buckeyes had been counting on depth in the running game, and now the focus shifts to how they handle the early stretch without one of the pieces they were planning to lean on.

Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said the timeline for Jacksons return is still uncertain, even as Ohio State hopes to have him back for the rivalry game against Michigan and the postseason. That leaves the Buckeyes waiting on a key injury update at a time when every week of availability matters, especially with the season moving toward its biggest games. [Read more 🡒]

Buckeyes Fans Had Two Former Stars To Watch All Over Sunday

Sunday offered Ohio State fans a familiar kind of rooting interest, with several former Buckeyes spread across the NFL slate after the programs win over Indiana in the 2026 college football season. The leagues Week 6 schedule had its usual mix of results, including the Texans international trip to London and a last-second field goal in that game, along with wins for a long list of teams from the Broncos to the Browns.

For Buckeyes followers, though, the intrigue went beyond the scoreboard and into the individual performances of a couple of ex-stars who continue to matter at the pro level. One was in Houston, where a familiar Ohio State connection had a new wrinkle in the Texans win, while another was out in Seattle, where the result did not go his teams way but his play still stood out enough to keep Columbus paying attention.
