Ryan Magdic gave Las Vegas exactly what it needed Wednesday night: six scoreless innings, tight command, and a chance for the Aviators to finish the job late.
The southpaw, who began the season at High-A Lansing, worked around five hits and struck out four without a walk in a 79-pitch outing, 51 of them strikes. It was another strong showing for Magdic’s control profile this year, with just 15 walks against 93 strikeouts over 104 innings.
The game stayed locked in a scoreless tie after Magdic handed it off, and the Las Vegas bullpen kept the line clean from there. Taylor Rashi, Drew Rom and Ben Bowden each logged a scoreless inning in relief. Bowden then got the win after the Aviators finally broke through in the bottom of the ninth.
That finish came off the bat of Bryan Lavastida, who ended it with one out in the ninth by launching a solo homer over the center field fence for a walk-off win. Brayan Buelvas also chipped in with three hits as Las Vegas claimed the seven-hit shutout.
In Double-A, Bobby Boser provided the power for Corpus Christi in a 5-3 win over Midland. Boser went 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks and two runs scored, while Casey Yamauchi added a 2-for-5 night with an RBI and CJ Rodriguez finished 2-for-5.
Nathan Dettmer took the loss for Midland after allowing four earned runs in 2.2 innings, with three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Domingo Robles gave Corpus Christi 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Micah Dallas followed with a clean inning of his own.
Thursday’s schedule has Sacramento at Las Vegas at 7:05 p.m. PT, Corpus Christi at Midland at 5:00 p.m.
