A's Stun With 4 Home Runs in One Inning, But There's More

In a thrilling display of power and potential, the A's turned heads with a remarkable four-homer inning in Cactus League play, hinting at an exciting season ahead.

In Mesa, Arizona, the Athletics gave fans a thrilling preview of their offensive prowess as they gear up for the 2026 season. The A's lineup, known for its slugging potential, showcased its firepower in a Cactus League showdown against the Padres at Hohokam Stadium. Trailing by six, the A's flipped the script with a seven-run fourth inning, highlighted by homers from Henry Bolte, Breyson Guedez, Nick Kurtz, and Tyler Soderstrom.

While Spring Training stats might not count in the official record books, the A's achievement carries a touch of historical flair. According to MLB research, they're the first team to belt four homers in a single inning of a Spring Training game since the Angels did it in 2013.

The fireworks began with Bolte, Guedez, and Kurtz launching homers off Michael King on three consecutive pitches. This rare feat was last seen in a regular or spring game on March 29, when Yankees sluggers Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and Aaron Judge started their game with three straight homers against Brewers starter Nestor Cortes.

Nick Kurtz, who made a name for himself last season as the American League Rookie of the Year, delivered a classic opposite-field shot. It soared through the warm Arizona air, clearing the left-field wall with ease. Bolte, ranked as the A’s No. 5 prospect, kicked off the inning with a laser-like 401-foot solo blast to right.

However, the standout moment belonged to Breyson Guedez. At just 18, and having spent last season in the Dominican Summer League, Guedez found himself in a lineup filled with A’s regulars due to a split-squad game and a few players being away for the World Baseball Classic. Despite more seasoned options, manager Mark Kotsay was impressed by Guedez’s previous performances, including a perfect 3-for-3 showing against the D-backs.

Kotsay remarked, “This kid was impressive at Salt River two days ago. We always talk about leaving an impression, and Guedez did just that.”

Guedez, the A’s No. 23 prospect, is known for his contact hitting, but he surprised everyone with his power on Friday. He launched a first-pitch changeup from King 450 feet into right field, clocking in at 110.4 mph off the bat.

As the Athletics continue their Spring Training journey, performances like these not only excite the fans but also hint at the potential for an explosive season ahead.
