Notre Dame’s 2027 class already looks stacked, but Zayden Gamble may have just put a little more fuel on the fire.
The Florida defensive back, one of the Irish’s 23 commits, went on social media to suggest there could still be another addition coming. Gamble wrote on Twitter: “I feel like we need 1 more DB on Board… I think I got one in mind ☘️.”
That’s enough to get attention, even if the identity of the player he had in mind remains a mystery. The most likely scenario, based on the reporting, is that this would have to be a flip. Most of the top defensive backs are already spoken for, and Notre Dame does not appear to be actively pushing hard for more defensive backs in the 2027 cycle.
For now, Gamble is the only one doing the talking, but he may not be talking about himself. His post reads like a little peer-recruiting nudge, the kind players use when they want to bring a friend along with them to South Bend.
Notre Dame already has three other defensive backs in the class: cornerbacks Xavier Hasan and Ace Alston, along with safety John Gay. That group gives the Irish a strong start in the secondary, but Gamble’s message suggests the staff may not be finished yet.
The Florida angle matters, too. Notre Dame has had success with its “ Florida Dame ” approach, and Gamble is from the Sunshine State. That makes another Florida prospect the most natural fit if this hint turns into something real.
The numbers back up the idea of adding one more defensive back as well. Notre Dame usually takes at least five in a class, so if Gamble’s hint is on the money, there’s still room for another piece.
The trick is figuring out who it could be. The Florida defensive backs Notre Dame has not already landed are mostly players the Irish backed off of some time ago, though it’s possible those conversations have quietly reopened.
For now, it’s just a tease. But if Gamble really was dropping a hint about another move, this is one situation worth keeping an eye on.

Fall camp is going to do a lot of the sorting for Notre Dame on offense before the Irish ever get to Wisconsin. The starting quarterback job is expected to be settled, but plenty of other spots are still open, and the staff has real decisions to make at running back, boundary receiver, tight end and even behind the No. 1 quarterback. For a team trying to build continuity early in the season, those are not small questions, especially with several younger players and transfers pushing to carve out roles.
At running back, Aneyas Williams looks like the early favorite, though there is enough competition in the room to keep that from being a done deal. The receiver picture is just as unsettled, with Quincy Porter, Micah Gilbert and Cam Williams all in the mix after Malachi Fields' departure, and the tight end group still sorting out who will earn meaningful snaps behind Cooper Flanagan.
