UNC fans hoping to lock in plans for the Notre Dame game will need a little patience.
The Tar Heels’ Oct. 3 meeting with the Fighting Irish has been placed on a six-day hold by the ACC and ESPN, which means the kickoff time and TV network won’t be announced until after all games are completed on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Carolina Football confirmed the delay on Sept. 21, 2026.
That leaves Chapel Hill in wait-and-see mode for a matchup that has been living in the gray area between noon and prime time. Based on how things have played out in the past, though, there’s a pretty good clue about where this one is headed.
North Carolina’s last four home games against Notre Dame all kicked off at 3:30 p.m. EST, and that same window feels like the likeliest landing spot again. UNC’s first three games this season under Bill Belichick have all started at noon, but this one carries a different kind of appeal.
A noon slot doesn’t seem to fit here, and a full night game doesn’t quite jump off the page either. The safest read is a mid-afternoon kickoff, with 3:30 p.m. looking like the best bet.
There is still some room for movement depending on how the rest of the weekend shakes out. Upsets elsewhere could push this game into a better television window, including a possible prime-time slot. But for now, the exact time remains unsettled.
The one thing that seems fairly clear: Chapel Hill should not be preparing for another noon kickoff. The rest will have to wait until late Saturday or early Sunday for the final answer.
