Former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman is spending part of this month trying to keep his NFL path alive, and he’s doing it alongside two other quarterbacks with plenty of league experience.
Hartman worked out at Oceanside Collegiate Academy with Drake Maye and Sam Howell, according to a post from the school’s social media. The group is getting in work ahead of NFL training camps later this month, and Oceanside made it clear the quarterbacks were welcome to use the campus.
“Great to have Drake Maye, Sam Hartman and Sam Howell all on campus working out! 3 NFL QBs at the same time.
Oceanside is a great place for our NFL friends to train in the offseason! You’re welcome any time!”
Hartman is an alum of Oceanside Collegiate Academy, so it appears he was the link that brought the workout trio together.
Maye is the biggest name in the group. He’s coming off a career-best season with the New England Patriots that included a run to the Super Bowl. Even though the Patriots were beaten by the Seattle Seahawks in that game, expectations are high for the third-year quarterback in 2026.
Howell is also trying to carve out his next role. He spent his first two NFL seasons with the Washington Commanders, including 2023, when he played extensively and threw for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. This offseason, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys and is battling for the backup quarterback job.
Hartman’s own NFL road has been more precarious. He went undrafted after his lone season at Notre Dame, then signed with the Commanders as an undrafted free agent. His time in Washington has been uneven, but he finished the 2025 season as the team’s QB3 behind Jayden Daniels and veteran backup Marcus Mariota.
His grip on a roster spot got even tighter this spring when Washington added former Rutgers and Minnesota quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, who was drafted late in the seventh round.
Hartman also had a rough showing in extended work during the 2025 preseason. Across three appearances, he completed 25 of 46 passes for 207 yards with four interceptions and a fumble. He also threw a pick-six and turned the ball over twice in Washington’s 30-3 preseason finale loss to Baltimore last year.
For Hartman, the timing of this workout makes sense. He’s trying to stay in the NFL, and getting reps with quarterbacks who have logged real starts in the league is a useful way to sharpen up before camp begins.

Notre Dames 2028 QB Hunt Just Got More Uncomfortable
Notre Dames 2028 quarterback board has narrowed quickly, and not in the way the Irish would have wanted. Trey Tagliaferris decommitment and move to Oklahoma already thinned the group, and with only four offers out there, two targets headed elsewhere and another expected to announce soon, Lukas Prock is now the lone quarterback target holding an offer from Notre Dame.
Prock has said he may have to make his decision earlier than he originally planned because other top 2028 quarterbacks are already starting to come off the board. Notre Dame has not made another move at the position, which leaves the Irish in a familiar but uncomfortable spot: still in the mix with Prock, but now trying to keep pace with schools like Ohio State and Indiana while the timeline keeps getting tighter. Jaylen Sneed Just Changed Notre Dames Defensive Ceiling
Jaylen Sneeds rise has been one of the more steady developments on Notre Dames defense, the kind of climb that starts on the scout team and ends with a real voice in the linebacker room. Over time, he has gone from a player learning the system to an integral part of the rotation, and his growth has shown up not just in snaps but in the way he carries himself on the field and in peer coaching settings.
Sneeds continued development under the staff matters because Notre Dame has built enough continuity on defense to think bigger than just another solid season. His presence gives the Irish another experienced piece in the middle of the unit, and it also keeps the door open for more leadership decisions to come as the program sorts through its next group of captain candidates.
