Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love Climbs Draft Boards as Giants Show Interest

As Jeremiyah Love's draft prospects soar, the New York Giants consider him a prime candidate to bolster their backfield amid rising competition and strategic decisions.

As the NFL Draft approaches, the buzz around Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love is reaching a fever pitch. Initially projected to go in the 20s, Love is now consistently breaking into the Top 5. One recent mock draft even places the dynamic running back at No. 5, potentially heading to the New York Giants.

The Giants, under the new leadership of head coach John Harbaugh, are weighing their options. Alongside Love, Ohio State's linebacker Arvell Reese and safety Caleb Downs are also on their radar. The decision will hinge on who's available and which position Harbaugh deems most critical for his squad.

Harbaugh has emphasized the importance of selecting a player with long-term potential, saying on the Mike Francesca podcast, "It’s not a need pick. It's a best player pick, because you’re going for the guy that's going to be that kind of a player - you're talking about a guy that you would like to see one day wearing a gold jacket."

The Giants' interest in Love makes sense, especially given their rushing struggles last season, with Tyrone Tracy leading the charge at just 740 yards and a 4.1 YPC average. Love could be the game-changer New York desperately needs.

However, there's a twist. The Giants drafted Cam Skattebo from Arizona State last year, and he showed promise before an injury cut his season short. Harbaugh might consider giving Skattebo a shot to lead the backfield in 2026.

Alternatively, Harbaugh could envision a powerful tandem, using Skattebo's recovery and Love's explosive potential as a formidable 1-2 punch. Known for his strong running games in Baltimore, Harbaugh might find the prospect of adding Love at No. 5 too tempting to resist in the 2026 NFL Draft.
