Notre Dame's first spring practice has set the stage for an exciting season ahead, as the Fighting Irish hit the field in South Bend with an impressive display of athleticism and teamwork. The anticipation is palpable, and while we're still waiting to see the team fully suited up in pads, today’s performance has everyone eager for what's to come.
After practice, the coordinators and some key players shared their insights. Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, defensive coordinator Chris Ash, and special teams coordinator Marty Biagi gave us a glimpse into their strategies and expectations. Rising sophomore tight end James Flanigan also shared his thoughts, adding to the buzz around the team’s potential.
Chris Ash, reflecting on his second year, noted the difference familiarity makes. "Last year was about getting to know everyone," Ash said.
"This year, it's about building on those relationships and understanding each player's strengths and weaknesses. We have new coaches, so alignment is key, but I'm in a much better place now."
On the offensive side, Mike Denbrock highlighted rising redshirt freshman running back Nolan James Jr. "His approach is mature beyond his years," Denbrock remarked.
"With his low center of gravity and strong build, he's tough to bring down. He’s poised to be a powerful inside runner for us."
James Flanigan emphasized the importance of "trust and consistency" in his development. "Learning a new offense was challenging, but focusing on daily improvement and understanding defenses has been crucial," Flanigan explained. "Now, I know how to adjust to different defensive looks, something I didn’t do much in high school."
With these insights, the stage is set for Notre Dame to refine their game before facing Wisconsin on September 6. Keep an eye on this team as they continue to develop and prepare for what promises to be a thrilling season.
