Jeremiyah Love has already left an impression on Dontaye Day-Thompson, and that connection helped make Notre Dame feel like a dream offer for the 2028 wide receiver.
Day-Thompson said the Irish had been on his mind long before the recruiting process really started to heat up. So when Notre Dame reached out earlier this month and made the offer, it landed with real weight. For him, this was one of the schools he had circled for years.
“I've been watching it since I was little, and one of my favorite running backs is Jeremiyah Love,” he told Irish Sports Daily. “That's what makes it one of my favorites.”
The offer came during a phone call with Notre Dame’s staff. Day-Thompson said the conversation started with positive feedback before the Irish got to the point.
“They said a lot of good things, asked me how I like the school and then offered me,” the prospect added.
Day-Thompson is a 3-star wide receiver in the 2028 class. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound athlete plays at Atlantic City High School in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and while he also lines up at defensive back, Notre Dame appears to view him as a receiver.
He’s still not a household name nationally, but the list of programs in on him is growing. Notre Dame joins Alabama, Boston College, Delaware State, Nebraska, Penn State, Syracuse, and Temple on his offer sheet. Syracuse was his first Power Four offer in January 2025, and Alabama, Penn State, and others have jumped into the mix over the last few months.
Day-Thompson’s production at Atlantic City helps explain why more major programs are coming around. As a sophomore, he put up 540 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. He also added scores through the air, on the ground, and on special teams, finishing with one passing touchdown, one rushing touchdown, and one special-teams touchdown.
As for what comes next, Day-Thompson said he plans to visit Rutgers during the first weekend of October. He’s also working toward his first trip to Notre Dame during the 2026 season, though no game date has been set yet. He said he wants a game-day experience in South Bend so he can see the campus and spend more time with the coaching staff.
Notre Dame still has a handful of home games left this season, and it sounds like a fall visit is likely to be part of the conversation.
