Notre Dame is adding another heavyweight to its future schedule, and this one brings a familiar name back into the mix. The Fighting Irish will face Nebraska in a home-and-home series in 2032 and 2033, marking the first meeting between the programs in more than 30 years.
The series opens in Lincoln on Saturday, October 30, 2032, when Notre Dame heads to Nebraska for the first time since 2001. A year later, the Cornhuskers will make the trip to South Bend for a matchup at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, October 29, 2033.
These two programs have crossed paths 16 times on the field, but the rivalry has been dormant since that 2001 meeting. Before that, their last clash came in the 1972 Orange Bowl, when Nebraska beat Notre Dame 40-6.
The most recent game in South Bend was a tight one, with the Cornhuskers pulling out a 27-24 overtime win over the then-ranked No. 23 Irish, who were facing then-ranked No.
1 Nebraska.
Notre Dame’s announcement also pointed out that both teams have been ranked in each of the last three meetings. Nebraska’s current outlook may be shaky, while Notre Dame remains in the national title conversation this season, but the broader picture is still clear: this gives the Irish another marquee opponent as they keep building out future schedules.
As it stands, Notre Dame still has three open spots on both its 2032 and 2033 slates. The Irish already have named opponents lined up across all four Power 4 conferences over the coming seasons.
