Notre Dame Gets Encouraging Aneyas Williams Update

Notre Dame's leading RB prospect Aneyas Williams is recovering quickly from elbow surgery, setting up a competitive fall backfield lineup.

When Marcus Freeman mentioned that Aneyas Williams was "limited" this spring, he also emphasized Notre Dame's enduring mantra: "next man up." But Williams wants fans to know he's gearing up for the fall, despite any current limitations.

Williams recently opened up about his spring status and his progress post-elbow surgery. Encouragingly, he's ahead of schedule in his recovery. While labeled as "limited," Williams is far from sidelined-he's actively participating in practices.

"I’ve been doing everything," Williams shared after a practice session. "There hasn’t been much restriction. The red jersey is just a precaution, but I’m still getting all the team reps."

Williams is reassuring Notre Dame fans that his spring role shouldn't be a concern. His mindset is all about seizing the moment and maximizing his opportunity.

With Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price now in the NFL, many see Williams as the frontrunner for the starting running back position. However, Kedren Young is also gearing up for a comeback this fall.

Young, who was the go-to back before Williams, missed the entire 2025 season due to a torn ACL. This opened the door for Williams to shine when Price and Love needed breaks. Although Young is sitting out this spring, he's eager to compete once the season kicks off.

In the meantime, Nolan James Jr. is turning heads with his performance, keeping the competition fierce. Notre Dame's backfield looks promising, and opponents should definitely be on alert. The Irish are poised to have a dynamic group ready to take the field, regardless of who claims the starting spot.
