A new hardcover book honoring Lou Holtz’s life and career is now up for pre-order.
Titled “Echoes of Holtz,” the 128-page collection brings together stories written by journalists from the South Bend Tribune and USA Today Company. It centers on the Hall of Fame coach who led Notre Dame to the 1988 national championship and died March 4 at 89.
The book’s description frames it as a tribute to Holtz’s faith, his sideline energy and the lessons he passed along to players and fans. It also promises rare photographs and memorable moments from a career that included his turnaround at Notre Dame and the motivational messages that made him such a lasting figure in college football.
“This stunning 128-page hardcover pays tribute to the legendary Lou Holtz, his unshakable faith, his fire on the sidelines and the timeless wisdom that inspired generations of players and fans alike,” the description of the book reads. “Crafted by the journalists at South Bend Tribune, each page celebrates a life defined by discipline, humor and an unrelenting will to win.
"Filled with rare photographs and unforgettable moments, this collector's piece brings you back to Holtz's storied career, from his miraculous turnaround at Notre Dame to his motivational words that transcended the game. Own a piece of college football history and celebrate the man who proved that with faith, hard work and the right attitude, anything is possible.”
Primary writers for the project were current South Bend Tribune Notre Dame football reporter Mike Berardino and Tribune columnist Tom Noie. Additional material came from Tribune archives, former Tribune writer Bill Moor and former Notre Dame Sports Information Director John Heisler, among others.

Notre Dame's Quarterback Plan Just Took A Brutal Recruiting Turn
Trey Tagliaferris brief Notre Dame commitment has already turned into one of those recruiting swings that leaves a coaching staff scrambling for the next conversation. The 2028 quarterback recruit backed off his pledge less than a week after going public with the Irish, and the quick change adds another layer of uncertainty to a position group Notre Dame is trying to build with long-term planning in mind.
Oklahoma has quickly emerged as the school to watch from here, and that possibility fits with Tagliaferris earlier admiration for Brent Venables program. He had spoken highly of the Sooners before, even calling the setup appealing enough to make landing there feel like a major honor, so the door was never fully closed on a flip once the Notre Dame commitment was in the books.
