Brayden Parks, a standout defensive tackle from Brother Rice, is gearing up for a crucial visit to Notre Dame this weekend. As a four-star prospect, Parks is looking to solidify his status with a program he holds in high regard.
Notre Dame's head coach, Marcus Freeman, has emphasized the importance of a strong line-driven program since taking the helm. Fortunately for Freeman, the upcoming recruiting cycles are packed with talented defensive linemen from nearby Chicago, and Parks is among the top prospects. Standing at 6-3 and weighing 295 pounds, Parks is making another trip to South Bend, marking a pivotal moment for both him and the Irish coaching staff.
Last season, on a cool October evening, I found myself on the sidelines at Gary Little Stadium in Chicago. The buzz around Parks was palpable, even with other talents like Illinois signee King Liggings and five-star end Kameron McGee on the field. It was clear that Notre Dame viewed Parks as a must-have recruit.
Since then, the Irish defensive coaching staff has undergone changes, introducing three new assistants. While these changes put some recruitments on hold, Parks remained patient, trusting in the program's direction.
"I wasn’t worried about it," Parks shared. "Coach Freeman and Coach Sebastian were in touch, and now I’m building a good relationship with Coach Partridge."
Notre Dame recently made Parks' Top 8 list, alongside powerhouses like Michigan, Ohio State, and Georgia. Parks plans to visit each school this spring, with Notre Dame kicking off his tour. This visit offers Parks a chance to deepen his understanding of Partridge's coaching style.
"I have a lot of respect for him," Parks said of Partridge. "He’s developed players like me for college and the NFL. I’m excited for some 1-on-1 time."
This will be Parks’ fourth visit to South Bend, and he's already comfortable with the campus and its culture. His focus now is on observing how the defensive linemen respond to Partridge's coaching.
"The practice will show me a lot," Parks explained. "I want to see how his guys react and improve."
Notre Dame remains a top contender for Parks due to its comprehensive offerings on and off the field. As his recruitment heats up, elite coaches from schools like Oregon and Ohio State are preparing their pitches. Parks will return to Notre Dame for an official visit in June.
"Notre Dame has everything," Parks stated. "That’s why they’ve always been one of my top schools.
Relationships and development are key for me. I’ll make another cut after my spring visits and then decide."
Parks’ recruitment highlights Notre Dame's intensified efforts to secure elite talent from the Chicago area, a priority that continues under the guidance of Partridge and the new recruiting team. This weekend marks another significant step in their pursuit of Brayden Parks for the 2027 class.
