Notre Dame has put itself in the mix for one of the most productive young athletes in the 2028 class, and now the Irish get a chance to make a stronger impression in person.
Kamieon Compton-Nero, a 4-star athlete from Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma, has trimmed his list to five schools: Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Alabama, and SMU. For Marcus Freeman and his staff, that means the Irish are still firmly in the hunt for a player who has drawn nearly 20 scholarship offers and sits near the top of the national board.
Compton-Nero checks in as the No. 45 player in the 2028 class, the No. 1 athlete at his position, and the No. 1 player in Oklahoma, according to the latest 247 Composite Rankings. At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, he’s already shown he can impact a game in multiple ways, which explains why programs across the country have pushed hard for him. His offer list includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, SMU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt, among others.
The numbers from his sophomore season back up the hype. Playing for Rejoice Christian, Compton-Nero piled up 3,335 total yards and 49 total touchdowns while helping lead the school to a second straight Oklahoma A-I state championship. He passed for 2,584 yards and 38 touchdowns, added 751 rushing yards and 8 more scores, and also turned in a defensive line that included 95 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 3 return touchdowns.
Notre Dame’s appeal, at least from Compton-Nero’s perspective, is rooted in fit and relationships. He explained it this way to the Irish Recruiting Wire:
“So much of who Notre Dame is on and off the field aligns with who I am and who I want to develop to be. I had developed a good relationship with Wes Yerty when he was at Ole Miss and then the relationship with Coach Henry has been great with me and my family.
He’s a coach I could be in his room and have a lot of success. Then Coach Freeman is one of the best in the game so not much needs to be added to that.
I’m excited to get on campus November 7th.”
That visit is an important one for Notre Dame. Compton-Nero is scheduled to be in South Bend on November 7 for the Miami game, and he’ll be part of a larger group of major targets expected on campus that day.
