Nebraska’s future football schedule just got a little more eye-catching.
The Huskers have added Notre Dame to their 2032 and 2033 slates for a home-and-home series, giving Nebraska a marquee non-conference matchup in both seasons. The two programs won’t meet until Oct. 30, 2032, when Notre Dame comes to Memorial Stadium, before the series shifts to South Bend on Oct. 29, 2033.
It will be the first time the teams have played since 2000 and 2001, when Nebraska won both games.
“The series with Notre Dame is the type of matchup that college football fans circle on their calendars years in advance,” Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “Our fans have a tremendous appreciation for the history of college football and iconic venues. We are excited to welcome Notre Dame and their fans to Lincoln in 2032, and I know our fans will travel to South Bend in full force in 2033.”
The announcement comes after Nebraska drew criticism from some corners for dropping Tennessee from its 2026 and 2027 non-conference schedules and replacing those games with Bowling Green and Northern Iowa. Dannen said the move was tied to the financial need for eight home games in 2027, when stadium reconstruction will reduce available seating. South Stadium will not be torn down until after the 2026 season.
There was also some speculation that broader scheduling shifts across college football may have played a role, with some Big Ten teams backing away from Power 4 non-conference games amid SEC reluctance to add a ninth conference game at the time. The SEC has since added another conference game.
Even before the Notre Dame addition, Nebraska’s non-conference schedule beyond 2027 was already in good shape. The Irish game fills the only opening through 2035 that did not already include a Power 4 opponent.
Nebraska’s 2033 schedule now features two Power 4 non-conference games, since the Huskers are also set to play Cincinnati that season.
