Michigan Just Missed On A Quarterback Fans May Regret

Rising star Trae Taylor captures the spotlight as the top quarterback in the nation, securing a strong future for Nebraska in college football.

Five-star quarterback Trae Taylor keeps climbing, and the latest recruiting update puts him at the top of the pile.

The Nebraska commit is now ranked as the No. 1 quarterback, the No. 1 player in Nebraska and the No. 14 overall prospect in the class of 2027 in Rivals’ updated industry rankings. Rivals’ 300 list has him just a notch different at No. 2 among quarterbacks, while still placing him as the top player in Nebraska and No. 17 overall in the class. 247Sports also has Taylor as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 prospect in Nebraska, though it slots him at No. 8 overall.

Taylor, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback from Omaha, Nebraska, by way of Chicago, has seen his profile rise steadily since committing to Nebraska. He transferred to Millard South High School after three seasons at Carmel Catholic High School in Chicago, and he’s coming off a big year: 3,571 passing yards, 38 touchdowns and three interceptions, plus 633 rushing yards and 12 scores on 77 carries.

His offseason has been just as busy. Taylor took part in the Navy All-American Bowl, The Opening and the Elite 11, where he earned MVP honors.

In a March scouting report, Andrew Ivins described Taylor as a "prediction passer with a good feel for the position that has a chance to emerge as a trusted facilitator on Saturdays and then potentially Sundays" and compared him to former Ohio State and current Houston Texans starter CJ Stroud.

The race for Taylor was shaped heavily by Big Ten programs. Rivals says Michigan hosted him on 14 visits in the months before his Nebraska commitment. The Wolverines eventually landed another 2027 quarterback, flipping Kamden Lopati, the No. 9 quarterback in the class, from Illinois on April 14.

Michigan State also stayed involved early, bringing Taylor in on six visits from 2023-24 before signing three-star quarterback Eli Stumpf on March 17. Stumpf is ranked as the No. 56 quarterback in the class.

Notre Dame made its own push, too, with six visits over the two years before Taylor announced for Nebraska. The Fighting Irish now hold a quarterback commitment from Champ Monds, who ranks as the No. 21 signal-caller in the class.

Styles Prescod Faces Real Pressure In Notre Dame's Tackle Battle

Styles Prescod spent the 2025 season getting a real taste of Notre Dames offensive line rotation, logging meaningful reps in seven games and finishing with 89 snaps as a redshirt sophomore. That experience has put him in the conversation as the No. 2 left tackle heading into 2026 fall camp, a useful place to be for a player trying to turn depth-chart momentum into something more permanent.

Prescods next challenge is the kind that can define a camp for an offensive lineman: holding off a wave of highly rated freshmen who are already pressing for the same spot. Grayson McKeogh is the headliner in that group, with Owen Strebig also in the mix, and the battle at left tackle is expected to stretch beyond August as Notre Dame sorts out its best option while Prescod continues to carry a steady special teams role. Notre Dame Is Emerging In A Familiar Fight For Elite Talent

The early stages of the 2028 recruiting cycle are already bringing familiar company into Notre Dames orbit, and King Pitts is the latest example of how the Irish can still get traction with elite prospects far from South Bend. The Hawaii lineman from Kapas High School has drawn attention from a long list of major programs, including Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia, but Notre Dame has managed to separate itself in a way that matters this early.

Pitts has said the Irish have stood out to him since he was a kid, a connection that gives Notre Dame a real opening as the chase for top talent keeps heating up. He has not put a deadline on his decision, which leaves plenty of time for the usual heavy hitters to keep pushing, and plenty of time for Notre Dame to keep selling the part of its pitch that has already resonated. Notre Dame Commit Isaiah Rogers Looks Ready For A Bigger Leap

Isaiah Rogers has already built the kind of rsum that makes Notre Dame fans pay attention, and the next step in his development came far from a Friday night field. The Irish running back commit and top 2027 prospect spent time at Nikes The Opening Finals, where elite high school talent mixed with some of the biggest names in football, giving Rogers a chance to measure himself against the best while picking up ideas he can carry into his senior year.

For a player coming off a strong junior season, the value there goes beyond the competition itself. Rogers said the event gave him a chance to learn how top performers approach the game and how he can sharpen his own, and that kind of exposure can matter for a back who already looks like hes on an upward track. Notre Dame will be watching closely to see how much of that experience shows up when the season starts. [Read more 🡒]
