Notre Dame is making waves in Chicago recruiting, and this weekend, they hosted some of the area’s top talent, including five-star edge rusher Kameron McGee from Brother Rice. McGee, a standout with a knack for making big plays, was eager to see what Notre Dame had to offer-and the Irish staff did not disappoint.
"The visit went great," McGee shared. "What stood out the most is how Notre Dame supports you before, during, and after college, on and off the field. That message really stuck with me."
As a sophomore, McGee was a force on the field, tallying 21 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks, with a standout performance in the state title game. During his visit, he got a firsthand look at Notre Dame's practice, led by defensive line coach Charlie Partridge. Establishing a connection with Partridge could be pivotal for both McGee and the Irish.
"I sat in the D-line meeting before practice," McGee explained. "They emphasized playing fast and physical, and that’s exactly what I saw. Coach Partridge’s hands-on approach and immediate feedback during drills were impressive."
After practice, McGee and Coach Partridge spent valuable time together, diving into football discussions and film analysis.
"I feel like we got closer," McGee said. "Talking to Coach Partridge helped me understand how I’d fit into their scheme and what their expectations are. They see me as a player who can help win championships."
McGee is not only a top-tier athlete but also excels academically. He’s seeking a program that offers immediate playing opportunities and strong off-field development.
"I love the game," McGee stated. "I want to keep improving.
I have a limited number of visits, so I need to see how I fit into the defensive scheme. Playing as a true freshman is a priority."
Academics are also a major factor for McGee and his family. "Academics are crucial," he continued. "Notre Dame’s reputation in this area is impressive, and the community has always been welcoming."
McGee also had a meaningful conversation with head coach Marcus Freeman, who emphasized McGee’s importance to the program.
"Coach Freeman made it clear that I need Notre Dame and Notre Dame needs me, but I must be willing to commit fully. Their support for players throughout life was a big factor for me."
As McGee continues his busy schedule with a tournament in Dallas and additional visits planned, he’s gathering information to narrow down his choices. His relentless drive on the field is matched by his dedication off it, and he leaves South Bend with a strong sense that Notre Dame could be the perfect fit.
Ranked as the No. 8 overall player nationally, McGee’s list of offers is impressive, including powerhouse programs like Ohio State, Georgia, and Texas, among others. Notre Dame has certainly positioned itself as a strong contender in this recruiting battle.
