North Carolina gets another exhibition tune-up on Sunday, this time against Indiana, and the Tar Heels have a lot more to sort through than the average preseason team. With 11 newcomers on the roster, these games matter in a way they might not for most programs. That was clear in last weekend’s 88-70 win over USC, when the revamped roster and coaching staff gave the first real look at what this group can become.
The Tar Heels were sharp in stretches against the Trojans, especially after halftime, but the opener also showed where the rough edges still are. Matt Able and Terrence Brown had quiet nights by any standard.
They combined for five points and went 2-of-8 from the field, missing all four of their three-point attempts. After the game, head coach Michael Malone said he expects more from both players, and Sunday offers another chance to see whether they can answer that challenge.
Jarin Stevenson is the other name worth watching closely. The 6-foot-10, 220-pound forward looked every bit like a potential breakout player in the USC game, finishing with 25 points and 10 rebounds while hitting 8-of-14 shots overall and 4-of-7 from deep. North Carolina should not need that kind of production every night, but Stevenson already looks like a centerpiece of the attack.
There are defensive questions still hanging around, too, and rebounding was one of them against USC. Sayon Keita and Alexandros Samodurov handled the center minutes, and both have obvious upside, but they also bring different concerns.
Keita is still very raw and inexperienced, while Samodurov can run into trouble when matched with stronger frontcourt players. Even so, the Tar Heels do have some help on the glass.
Stevenson was active there, and Maximo Adams also made his presence felt on the boards.
The game will be shown on B1G+, the Big Ten Network’s subscription streaming service.

Duke Loss Now Overshadowed By Kimari Robinson Sideline Backlash
The fallout from North Carolinas latest trip to Duke has quickly shifted beyond the scoreboard, with a brief sideline incident drawing as much attention as the game itself. During the contest, Duke cornerback Kimari Robinson swatted the arm of a female athletic trainer while she was attending to injured teammate Landan Callahan, a moment that was short but visible enough to set off criticism online.
What happens next is still up in the air, and that uncertainty is now part of the story. Fans were quick to react on social media, and there has been no clarity yet on whether Robinson will face any disciplinary action from the school, leaving the episode hanging over a rivalry game that already carried plenty of weight.
