UNC will head to the 2026 ACC Tipoff in Charlotte with a very different look, and the Tar Heels now know which two players will stand alongside Michael Malone for the program’s first big media moment of the new era.
Neoklis Avdalas and Jarin Stevenson will represent North Carolina at the annual event, giving the conference and its media members their first real chance to hear from the Tar Heels ahead of the 2026-2027 season.
Stevenson’s spot comes as little surprise. He is one of the few returners from last season’s team and is expected to play a major role for Malone’s group, with the coaching staff calling on him to help lead the new roster.
Avdalas, meanwhile, is one of the more intriguing choices from the offseason. Malone had several transfer portal options to consider, including Matt Able and Terrence Brown, but landed on Avdalas, a player who arrived after a freshman season at Virginia Tech.
Avdalas decided he needed at least another year at the college level before turning pro, entered the transfer portal, and quickly became Malone’s top recruiting target. His commitment helped set the tone for the rest of the offseason.
It also gives UNC a 6-foot-9 presence who can handle the ball like a guard, which makes him one of the most interesting pieces on the roster.
The program’s ACC Tipoff representation has changed dramatically from recent years. Seth Trimble represented UNC at the event in each of the last two seasons, while RJ Davis joined him in 2024 and Henri Veesaar did the same in 2025. All three are now gone, opening the door for Avdalas and Stevenson to take their place in Charlotte.
Malone is expected to be there as well, and the trio should have plenty to say about what Carolina Basketball looks like as this new chapter begins. Even though each of them has already spoken to the media, this setting is different. It is the conference’s stage, and the spotlight comes with it.
