North Carolina’s recruiting momentum is not letting up, and the next big name on the Tar Heels’ calendar is another five-star headliner.
Beckham Black, the 6-3 point guard and the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 class according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, is scheduled to take an official visit to UNC this weekend. Joe Tipton of Rivals first reported the news.
That trip adds another major stop to a busy stretch in Chapel Hill. Last weekend, five-star prospects CJ Rosser and Jordan Page were in town, and now Michael Malone and his staff will get another crack at one of the class’s elite talents. North Carolina has made no secret of how hard it is going after Black, a player the Tar Heels would love to build their 2027 class around.
Black has the kind of profile that turns a recruiting weekend into a statement opportunity. UNC is clearly pushing to make him the point guard of the future in Chapel Hill, and the Tar Heels are going to try to show him exactly why that fit makes sense.
There’s even a tempting picture here for North Carolina fans to imagine: a 2027 class built around Black, Page and Rosser. That would give Michael Malone his first class at UNC three five-star prospects and three of the top 12 players in the class.
Rosser and Black are teammates at Southeastern Prep, which makes the possibility of them continuing together in college especially intriguing. Chapel Hill would give them that chance, while also putting them in front of a coach who won an NBA title and understands what it takes to reach the league and stay there.
Of course, recruiting rarely stays simple for long. A school can look like the favorite one day and lose ground the next, and all the pressure in the world doesn’t matter until a player signs and gets on campus. That’s just the reality of the chase.
Still, North Carolina is treating Black’s visit the same way it handled the visits from Page and Rosser: with full attention and full force. The Tar Heels would love to add him to the same guard mix as Page and Nasir Anderson for next season.
