North Carolina’s 2027 recruiting board keeps getting more interesting, and now a new name is set to come through Chapel Hill.
After 5-star wing DeMarcus Henry announced his commitment to the Tar Heels on Friday afternoon during NBA Today, UNC may be on the verge of adding another major piece. DraftExpress’s Jonathan Givony reported Friday that 17-year-old Serbian wing Matija Lukić will visit North Carolina next week.
Lukić is scheduled to tour seven schools in all: Boston College, BYU, Duke, N.C. State, UConn, Utah and UNC. According to Givony, the visit stretch begins Sunday, though the first stop on the trip was not identified.
The Serbian prospect boosted his stock this summer by helping lead his country to the FIBA U-17 World Cup final, where Serbia finished runner-up. He averaged 16.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in that event.
If Lukić ends up in Chapel Hill, he would give the Tar Heels a loaded group of options at small forward for the 2027-28 season.
With Lukić now on the visit list, UNC’s 2027 class stands at 10 recruits, according to TarHeel247. The Tar Heels are also showing interest in 6-foot-7 wing AJ Williams, who plays at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Ga.
North Carolina wrapped up its preseason with an 89-82 overtime win over Charlotte on October 27 and opens the regular season on November 2. The next few days could tell a lot about how the Tar Heels’ 2027 class keeps taking shape.

Belichicks Tar Heels Just Showed They Can Hang With The Best
North Carolinas game against No. 1 Miami did not end with an upset, but it did offer something Tar Heels fans have not always had much of lately: proof that this team can stay in the fight with elite competition. The Tar Heels were competitive from start to finish, answering Miamis scoring and keeping the game within reach in a way that stood in sharp contrast to some of the more lopsided efforts of recent seasons.
It is still too early to talk about North Carolina as a true championship threat, and this loss did not change that. But under Bill Belichick, the Tar Heels are clearly moving in a better direction, and this was the kind of performance that matters because it suggests the gap is shrinking. For a program trying to climb back into relevance, hanging with the nations top team is a meaningful step, even if the final result still came up short. [Read more 🡒]
UNC Went Toe To Toe With No. 1 Miami Until One Brutal Mistake
For much of Week 9, North Carolina looked like it belonged on the same field as No. 1 Miami. The Hurricanes struck first, but the Tar Heels answered with multiple touchdown drives led by Billy Edwards Jr., and the game had the feel of a heavyweight fight as both defenses came up with key stops and the flags kept shaping momentum in real time.
North Carolina even managed to briefly grab the lead in the fourth quarter, a striking turn against the top-ranked team in the country. Then came the play that changed everything, as Edwards Jr. coughed up the ball late and Miami came away with the recovery, leaving the Tar Heels to wonder how a game they had pushed so hard could slip away in one brutal moment. UNCs 2027 Future Just Got Real With One Big Question
North Carolinas 2027 recruiting picture got a lot clearer with Demarcus Henry now on board, giving the Tar Heels an early anchor in a class that already has plenty of long-term intrigue. The highly ranked prospect adds another layer to a pipeline that still includes names like Davis, Adams, Rosser and Keita, and it gives the staff a chance to start imagining how the next wave of talent could fit together in Chapel Hill.
The bigger question now is how all of those pieces eventually sort themselves out, because the conversation around this class is no longer just about landing talent, it is about building a roster. Henrys commitment puts North Carolina in position to keep stacking options, but the real challenge will come in figuring out how the development of these prospects lines up with the teams future needs and who ultimately becomes part of the core.
