Former North Carolina forward Danny Green had plenty of praise for Caleb Wilson after the young Tar Heel’s early NBA showing, and he didn’t hold back on what stood out most.
Green, who played for UNC from 2005 to 2009 before being drafted in the second round with the 46th overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers, said Wilson has already separated himself from the pack.
“The way Caleb Wilson played, he just overshadowed everybody else. You can tell he’s been working on his game, working on stretching the floor.
Normally, he’s a mid-range guy, works in that Karl Malone-area. He has a chance of getting Rookie of the Year, got a good chance at making some money,” Green said, H/T Basketball Network.
“He made a lot of Carolina people proud.”
Green, now working as an analyst, also made it clear he sees real long-term potential in Wilson, while still stopping short of putting too much pressure on him this early.
“I don't want to get too overboard just yet, as I've said plenty of times now when it comes to the Summer League, but Wilson really looks the part, and I have a feeling that he's going to be a very good player in this game for a super long time.”
Wilson is still at the very beginning of his NBA journey, and while the early signs have been encouraging, there’s also a reminder in Green’s comments that no one should expect perfection right away. He’s young, he’s learning, and he’s just getting started.
