North Carolina has made its first real push for one of the biggest names in the 2027 class, extending an offer to point guard NaVorro Bowman Jr.
The Tar Heels have been clear about what they need. With Terrence Brown having just one season of eligibility remaining, there’s already a backcourt opening looming for next offseason, and Michael Malone’s staff has been working with that reality in mind. UNC has shown interest in multiple guards in the class, but Bowman Jr. had already started to stand out as a name to watch.
Bowman Jr. confirmed the offer on Instagram, posting an image of the Tar Heel logo on his story. For a player who had already been active around UNC-related posts on social media, the move now puts him squarely on the board with the program.
The 6-foot-3 guard is ranked by Rivals Industry Composite as the No. 12 overall prospect in the class. He’s also listed as the fifth-best guard and the third-best prospect in California.
Bowman Jr. has built his reputation as a scorer. At Notre Dame, he averaged 22.5 points as a junior and earned first team all-state honors. The basketball path is his own, even with a football pedigree behind him - he’s the son of former four-time NFL All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler NaVorro Bowman.
His summer only strengthened the case. Playing for Team USA at the U17 World Cup, Bowman was one of the team’s most productive scorers as the group won gold, putting up 11.9 points and 3.9 assists per game. He carried that momentum into the EYBL circuit, where he’s been the fourth-leading scorer among 17U qualifiers with 20.9 points per game for Team Why Not.
UNC is not starting from the front of the line. Bowman already has four official visits lined up to UConn, Illinois, Texas, and Arizona. Still, the Tar Heels believe he fits what they want in Chapel Hill, and the offer gives them a real shot to stay in the hunt for one of the class’s top guards.
