Michael Malone and UNC are getting an early crack at one of the most intriguing big men in the 2028 class.
Dylan Betts, a 7-foot-4 center and one of the summer’s fastest-rising recruits, has lined up an unofficial visit to Chapel Hill for Sept. 25-27, according to multiple outlets including 247Sports and Rivals. The trip comes after stops at Michigan and Illinois and before he closes out the stretch with a visit to Alabama.
Betts, who is set to move to IMG Academy this fall, picked up an offer from North Carolina on July 1. That offer clearly caught his attention, and now the Tar Heels have a real chance to make an impression in person.
The schedule is already taking shape for the No. 11 overall recruit in the 2028 class, per 247Sports, and the No. 13 prospect in the Rivals Industry Composite. Along with UNC, his offer list already includes Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Purdue, UCLA and USC.
The Betts name carries plenty of weight in basketball circles. Dylan is the younger brother of Lauren Betts, who led UCLA to the 2026 national title and won Most Outstanding Player honors for the NCAA Tournament.
His sister Sienna, a former McDonald’s All-American Game MVP, is also at UCLA. Their parents built the foundation: Andy Betts was a 7-foot-1 player at Long Beach State before a 14-year pro career in Europe, while Michelle Betts starred in volleyball at Long Beach State and helped win the 1993 national championship.
For North Carolina, landing the visit is the first big step. It also says plenty about where the recruitment stands right now. The Tar Heels are in the mix, and Betts is giving them a real look.
That fits the way Michael Malone and his staff have attacked the recruiting trail in recent months. They’ve gone after elite talent aggressively, and Betts is a clear example of that approach.
