Dylan Betts gave UNC fans a first look at his unofficial visit to Chapel Hill, and the photos did plenty of talking on their own.
The five-star Class of 2028 big man posted images from the trip on his Instagram account, including shots of him in the Tar Heels’ iconic basketball uniforms. For a recruit with plenty of options and plenty of attention, the visit was another sign that Carolina is firmly in the mix.
Betts, a high school junior, has already been on the move in his recruitment. Before arriving in Chapel Hill this weekend, he made unofficial visits to Michigan and Illinois, and he also has a trip to Alabama lined up in a few weeks.
UNC getting Betts on campus, even for an unofficial visit, says plenty about where things stand. The interest is clearly mutual, and the Tar Heels have already done the early work of building a relationship with him.
That matters because Betts’ profile is only going to climb. He is expected to keep drawing more attention as he competes for IMG Academy this upcoming season, and the race for him should only intensify over the next few months.
North Carolina is still putting major energy into the 2027 class, but the staff is also looking ahead to 2028, where timing matters just as much as talent. Coaches across the country are already pushing hard for the players they want, and Betts is squarely in that group.
If UNC can eventually land a commitment from the 7-foot-3 center, it would be a massive addition for Michael Malone and the Tar Heels’ 2028 recruiting class.
