The ACC has finally put Carolina’s 2026-27 conference path on paper, and Michael Malone’s first season in charge comes with a schedule that wastes no time getting into the grind.
UNC opens league play at home on Dec. 30 against California, the lone ACC game before the calendar flips to 2027. From there, the Tar Heels are immediately thrown into a stretch that mixes tough road trips, rivalry dates, and a few chances to settle in at home.
January starts with a pair of road games, first at Boston College on Jan. 2 and then at Louisville on Jan. 5.
That Louisville trip could carry an extra wrinkle, with Seth Trimble possibly on the other side. Carolina then comes home for its only ACC meeting with NC State on Jan. 9 before heading back out to Florida State on Jan.
- The Seminoles were a different team by the end of last season, and that game sits in the middle of a month that also includes Stanford, Virginia, Syracuse, and SMU.
The Tar Heels get three of their final four league games in January at home. After the Florida State trip, Carolina hosts Stanford on Jan. 16 and Virginia on Jan. 19, then goes to Syracuse on Jan. 23 before returning home to face SMU on Jan.
- The month closes with a non-conference trip to Nashville to play Illinois on Jan. 30, a game the source calls the game of the month.
February opens with a road trip to South Bend on Feb. 2, then Carolina gets back-to-back home games against Georgia Tech on Feb. 6 and Louisville on Feb. 8.
After that comes one of the headline games on the calendar: a trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Feb. 13 to face Duke. A week later, UNC stays on the road for a Big Four matchup at Wake Forest on Feb. 20, then returns home to play Miami on Feb.
- The month ends at Virginia Tech on Feb.
March is short and sharp. Carolina visits Pittsburgh on March 2, then wraps up its first ACC season under Malone at home against Duke on March 6 before the ACC Tournament begins.

North Carolinas tight end group has been forced into an early reset before the 2026 season has even settled in. Jaxxon Warren is expected to miss the entire year after a training camp injury, and Jordan Washington is also slated to be out for an extended stretch, leaving the Tar Heels thinner at a position they were counting on for steady production and flexibility in the passing game.
That has pushed Jelani Thurman into a much bigger role right away, and the Ohio State transfer already looked like a central piece in the Week 0 win over TCU. Thurman led North Carolina with four catches for 94 yards, a reminder that the Tar Heels may have to lean on him more heavily as they sort through the depth chart and figure out how to replace the production and presence they suddenly lost. UNC Recruiting Weekend Hit By NCAA Issue At Worst Possible Time
A home game against East Tennessee State was supposed to give North Carolina another chance to roll out the red carpet for recruits, but the weekend now comes with an unexpected limitation. The program self-reported a violation from last season, and as a result, it will not be allowed to host unofficial visits for that game, trimming one of the easiest ways coaches usually get prospects around the program on a busy fall Saturday.
UNC can still bring in official visitors, and the staff has decided to spread those opportunities across its remaining home dates instead of trying to force everything into one weekend. The good news for the Tar Heels is that the NCAA process has already been completed and corrective actions have been taken, but the timing is still less than ideal for a program trying to keep momentum going on the recruiting trail.
