North Carolina now has a clearer picture of its 2027 ACC football schedule, and the layout comes with a mix of familiar home dates and a road slate that will keep the Tar Heels busy.
The ACC announced conference opponents for all 17 programs Wednesday as the league keeps moving toward a nine-game schedule. For Bill Belichick’s team, that means four league games in Chapel Hill and five away from home.
UNC will host Duke, Florida State, Virginia and Virginia Tech at Kenan Stadium. On the road, the Tar Heels are set to visit Louisville, NC State, Stanford, Syracuse and Wake Forest.
A few pieces jump out right away. Carolina gets Duke and Virginia at home, while the annual meeting with NC State lands in Raleigh. Virginia Tech is also headed back to Chapel Hill for the first time since 2022, and Florida State will make its first trip there since 2024.
The travel burden is hard to miss, either. Five ACC road games is a lot on its own, and Stanford makes that list especially demanding with a cross-country trip. Add Louisville, Syracuse, Wake Forest and NC State, and UNC’s conference schedule is built around plenty of miles.
The new setup also changes what had already been known about 2027. Under the ACC’s old eight-game rotation, North Carolina was supposed to go to Georgia Tech, NC State, Stanford and Wake Forest. With the shift to nine conference games, Georgia Tech drops off and Louisville and Syracuse are added to the road list.
The ACC started its move to the nine-game format in 2026. In 2027, 16 of the league’s 17 teams will play nine ACC games, while Clemson will play eight conference games and at least two Power Four non-conference opponents.
The eight-game slot will rotate among league members in later seasons. According to the conference, the model ensures every ACC team gets at least 10 games each year against Power Four competition.
For North Carolina, the nine ACC games will be paired with three already announced non-conference home dates against North Alabama, UCF and UConn. That gives the Tar Heels seven total games at Kenan Stadium in 2027.
There are also several ACC teams UNC will not see in the regular season that year: Clemson, Miami, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Boston College, California and SMU. The Tar Heels also avoid Notre Dame.
The opponents are locked in. The order still isn’t.
