Carolina cross country is back on the road this weekend, and the next stop is Princeton Meadows Challenge in New Jersey on Saturday morning.
The Tar Heels will open the day with the men’s 8k at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women’s 6k at 10:15 a.m. Both races come with a crowded and competitive field.
On the men’s side, 15 different programs are entered, including conference rival Duke and No. 9 Syracuse.
The field also includes No. 4 Alabama and No.
25 Princeton, giving UNC plenty of ranked competition in front of it.
The women’s race will feature 16 teams, with three programs from the most recent USTFCCCA poll on the schedule: No. 10 Alabama, No.
13 Penn State, and host No. 25 Princeton.
Saturday also marks Carolina’s return to Princeton for the first time since the 2024 season. In the last trip to the Princeton Invitational, the women finished third and the men took fourth.
UNC enters the meet coming off a strong season opener at the Virginia Invitational at Panorama Farm two weeks ago, where both the men and women picked up team wins. Ciara O'Shea delivered the first individual victory of her Carolina career in that meet, then earned national and conference recognition as both the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and the ACC Women's Performer of the Week. Newcomer Caden Leonard also made an immediate impression, taking ACC Freshman of the Week honors after a top-five finish.

Nasir Andersons official visit to Chapel Hill gave North Carolina another chance to make its case with one of the top guards in the class. The highly rated recruit shared photos from the trip on social media, including shots from inside the Dean Smith Center, while UNC coach Michael Malone has already spent multiple visits at Andersons high school trying to keep the Tar Heels near the front of the line.
The trip may have done more than just reinforce UNCs interest. UNC Women Face Rising Pressure At ITA All-Americans
Carolinas women were still alive in key draws at the ITA All-American Championships, with Nicole Khirin moving into the singles round of 16 after beating Anastasiia Grechkina. The Tar Heels also kept one doubles pairing in the main bracket, as Zampardo and Maltby advanced to the quarterfinals and remained the only Carolina duo left there.
Elsewhere in the event, Rabman and Manning stayed busy in consolation play with a win over Wichita State, a useful result in a tournament that quickly starts separating contenders from the rest.
