The temperature was already rising at Memorial Stadium long before North Carolina and Clemson were supposed to kick off Saturday afternoon’s ACC matchup.
About two hours before game time, players from both sides got into a heated exchange at midfield. Clemson had only just arrived and was still in suits when the confrontation broke out.
The scene started near midfield while UNC players were gathered for a pregame prayer, something the Tar Heels do before both home and road games. Words were exchanged for roughly a minute before the teams were pulled apart. No punches were thrown and no penalties were assessed.
