Tyler Hansbrough Stuns Fans With Bold Comments On UNC's March Madness Collapse

UNC's collapse against VCU in March Madness sparks sharp criticism from former star Tyler Hansbrough, highlighting deeper issues within the team's dynamics and coaching strategies.

North Carolina's early exit from the NCAA Tournament is a tough pill to swallow for fans and players alike, echoing through the halls of past, present, and future Tar Heels. After squandering a 19-point lead to VCU in the first round, questions about UNC's performance and head coach Hubert Davis have inevitably surfaced.

Former UNC star Tyler Hansbrough didn't hold back in his assessment of the situation, highlighting a pattern he observed throughout the season. His comments seemed to suggest a critique of both the coaching staff and the players.

"I'm not stunned," Hansbrough remarked. "We talked about it at halftime.

You asked if I was happy, and I said, I've seen this story. I've seen this happen.

They’ve had lapses in games where they just go still, both offensively and defensively. Their competitiveness drops, and they get content.

They never step on anybody’s throat."

Hansbrough emphasized that when UNC had a lead, they failed to capitalize on it. "It’s been something all year," he continued.

"People keep saying, ‘Caleb Wilson didn’t play.’ He didn’t.

But I’m tired of hearing about Caleb Wilson being absent. The story is VCU played Carolina, not VCU played Caleb Wilson."

Despite the disappointing season, Hansbrough doesn't foresee a coaching change. "I don’t think they make a move," he said regarding the possibility of replacing Hubert Davis.

"The reason is that money is a big deal right now at UNC, with football and this arena situation. My worry is, if you do make a change, does Steve Newmark, who’s not a former AD, know how to navigate this?"

Hansbrough's insights reflect a deep understanding of the team's dynamics and the broader challenges facing the program. While there's no doubt the loss stings, the focus now shifts to how UNC can learn from this season and build towards a stronger future.
