The University of North Carolina has suspended true freshman wide receiver Keeyun Chapman indefinitely after his arrest on Tuesday night.
Chapman was taken into custody during a traffic stop involving fellow true freshman receiver C.J. Sadler at 9:30 PM at 1050 Martin Luther King Jr.
Blvd. in Chapel Hill. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon (handgun).
UNC confirmed the suspension in a statement issued Thursday morning, coming after the resignation of Steve Belichick. The school said, “Chapman's suspension, like the actions resulting from the investigation, reflect the University's commitment to accountability and the well-being of its student athletes. We believe the steps announced today will help make Carolina Football a stronger program and one that continues to earn the pride of the entire Carolina community.”
Chapman has not appeared in a game this season after enrolling over the summer. He had originally been scheduled to enroll in the winter, but was unable to do so for an unspecified reason.
A product of Jackson High School in Jackson, AL, Chapman arrived in Chapel Hill as the No. 233 overall prospect and No. 39 wide receiver in the 2026 class. His senior season was quieter than the year before, as he caught 16 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.
As a junior, he put up 51 receptions for 1,322 yards and 17 touchdowns while earning all-region honors and helping lead his team to a 4A state title. In the season before that, he finished with 18 catches, 546 yards and nine touchdowns.
