The top-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse team showcased their prowess on Friday afternoon, cruising past Ohio State with a commanding 22-9 victory at Dorrance Field. This win marks the Tar Heels' 25th consecutive triumph, tying them for the 10th longest streak in NCAA history.
A Day of Hat Tricks
The Tar Heels had an impressive five players achieving hat tricks. Chloe Humphrey was the standout performer, netting five goals-a feat she's accomplished 10 times in her 25-game career.
Addison Pattillo and Eliza Osburn both matched their career highs with four goals each, while Kiley Mottice added three to the tally. Kate Levy continued her hot streak, securing her second consecutive hat trick after setting a career high last week against Syracuse.
Game Highlights
The action kicked off with Eliza Osburn scoring just 49 seconds into the game with a free-position goal. Osburn quickly added another, giving the Heels an early lead.
Chloe Humphrey then joined the scoring with an assist from Kaleigh Harden, followed by Kate Levy, pushing the score to 4-1. Osburn completed her hat trick within the first quarter, and Humphrey soon followed suit with three of her own.
Ohio State attempted a comeback with two quick goals at the start of the second quarter, but Addison Pattillo responded decisively with a hat trick in just three minutes, extending the lead to 10-3. By halftime, Carolina was comfortably ahead, 13-5.
In the second half, Kiley Mottice opened the scoring, and Osburn added her fourth goal. Levy and Humphrey continued to dominate, each adding to their goal tally.
Mottice completed her hat trick early in the fourth quarter, further solidifying the lead. Mairyn Dwyer capped off the scoring with her first career goal, bringing the final score to 22-9.
Statistical Dominance
The Tar Heels forced four turnovers and outshot Ohio State 10-4 in the first quarter alone. By halftime, they had taken 18 shots, 17 of which were on target. Overall, Carolina outshot the Buckeyes 36-17, with 31 of those shots on goal.
