Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Tar Heels Keep Rolling with a Commanding Victory Over Richmond
In a display of both power and precision, the North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team dominated Richmond with a 10-0 victory in just seven innings at Boshamer Stadium. This win, part of their impressive 4-0 start, showcased their ability to close out games in "walk-off" fashion, with two mercy rule victories bookending an extra-inning triumph over Indiana.
The standout performance on the mound came from seasoned left-hander Kyle Percival. Making a triumphant return after a long recovery from a season-ending injury nearly a year ago, Percival pitched four shutout innings, striking out two and keeping Richmond's bats silent. His comeback set the tone for a pitching staff that is quickly earning a reputation as one of the nation's finest.
Following Percival, freshmen Talan Holiday and Jackson Rose each contributed an inning of solid relief, allowing just one baserunner apiece. Sophomore Camron Seagraves closed the game with a hitless inning, marking an impressive debut for the 2026 season.
Offensively, the Tar Heels wasted no time in asserting their dominance. Nine runs in the first three innings, including a six-run explosion in the second, put the game firmly in their grasp. Gavin Gallaher and Macon Winslow kickstarted the scoring with RBI doubles in the first inning.
Winslow, a recent transfer from Duke, continued his hot streak with a powerful performance. Fresh off a game-winning home run on Saturday, he added a double and a 374-foot three-run homer in his first two at-bats on Tuesday, making an immediate impact for his new team.
Jake Schaffner also joined the home run party with a three-run shot of his own in the second inning, further swinging momentum in Carolina's favor.
The final run came courtesy of Rom Kellis V, who scored on a wild pitch after doubling earlier in the game. Kellis has been efficient at the plate, with both his at-bats this season resulting in doubles.
Looking ahead, the Tar Heels are set to face Longwood at Boshamer Stadium on Wednesday night, with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
