CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina Tar Heels put on a baseball clinic with a commanding 9-1 victory over the NC A&T Aggies on a brisk Tuesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. Ranked No. 8, the Tar Heels (7-1-1) showcased their pitching prowess and offensive depth, cruising to a win that nearly ended in a run-rule before a late Aggies score.
Cameron Padgett set the tone early, delivering three innings of shutout ball and striking out three, while freshman sensation Caden Glauber followed up with a stellar performance. Glauber, in his finest collegiate outing yet, pitched five innings, allowing just a single baserunner via hit-by-pitch and fanning five batters to secure the win.
The Tar Heels' offense kicked off in the second inning when Owen Hull ripped a double down the left field line. Macon Winslow, demonstrating heads-up baserunning, scored all the way from first. Hull's day was nothing short of spectacular, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, marking his best performance since transferring from George Mason.
Defensively, the Tar Heels shone brightly as well. With the Aggies mounting a threat in the fourth, Cooper Nicholson delivered a defensive gem. NC A&T's Bruce Whyce lined a shot that seemed destined for the outfield, but Nicholson's diving stop and subsequent double play earned him high praise from head coach Scott Forbes, who called it "the play of the game."
The Tar Heels' bats stayed hot, adding three runs in both the fifth and eighth innings to solidify their lead. Hull and Erik Paulsen were key contributors, each driving in a pair of runs with timely singles.
Looking ahead, the Tar Heels are set to host VCU at Boshamer Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 25, with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the action live on ACCNX.
