North Carolina had no choice but to get busy in the linebacker room after a 4-8 season sent key players packing, and Peyton Seelmann is already looking like one of the fastest ways the Tar Heels patched a major hole.
The overhaul hit that position group hard. UNC lost most of its rotation, including Khmori House, who led the team in tackles in 2025. To stabilize things, the Tar Heels brought in Seelmann and Derek McDonald, two additions meant to give the defense some immediate credibility.
Seelmann brings the kind of production that stands out right away. At Richmond in 2025, he piled up 120 tackles, a total that placed him in the top 10 nationally in the FCS. That level of output is exactly what UNC needed as it rebuilt on the fly.
Bill Belichick addressed Seelmann’s value when he met with the media on Friday, pointing to what the linebacker adds to the Tar Heels’ defense.
