In Atlanta, the University of North Carolina's swimming and diving team made waves at the NCAA Women's Championships, with standout performances from Mary Macaulay and Sofia Knight.
Macaulay delivered a stellar performance in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:05.61 to not only earn honorable mention All-America honors but also set a new school record. Her race was a masterclass in pacing and technique. She kicked off with a swift 55.50 in the 100 fly, transitioned smoothly into a 1:02.30 backstroke, powered through the breaststroke leg in 1:09.36, and finished strong with a 58.45 freestyle.
On the diving board, Sofia Knight showed her prowess in the 1-meter competition, securing 14th place with a score of 271.60. Her highlight was a forward 2 ½ somersault pike in round five, earning her 49.40 points, contributing significantly to her overall impressive score.
Samantha Armand also made her mark, tying for 21st in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.26. Meanwhile, the 200 free relay team, composed of Kamryn Meskill, Michaela Chokureva, Mackenzie Headley, and Eden Goettsch, finished 26th. Meskill's lead-off leg was particularly notable, as her 22.20 time placed her eighth all-time at UNC in the 50 free.
Looking ahead, the Tar Heels are set to compete in the 100 back, 200 breast, 3-meter, and 400 medley relay on Friday. Prelims kick off at 10 a.m., with finals slated for 6 p.m., all available for streaming on ESPN+.
