In Atlanta, the University of North Carolina's swim team made quite a splash at the ACC Championships, with some standout performances that have fans buzzing. Louis Dramm, a senior from Dresden, Germany, secured his first conference podium by clinching third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:41.40.
This not only hit the NCAA standard but also earned the Tar Heels a solid 27 points. Dramm, who already holds the school record in this event, improved from last year's fourth-place finish.
Meanwhile, Sean Setzer was busy rewriting the record books. He set a new school record in the 50 freestyle during prelims with a blazing 19.07 and then topped it with a 19.04 during the 200 free relay. He wrapped up the finals with a 19.14, securing 13th place.
The Tar Heels didn't stop there. Josh Parent made waves in the 500 free, clocking a 4:17.67 to claim 19th place and move to No. 4 all-time at UNC.
On the women's side, Maren Conze posted a 4:43.65 in the 500 free prelims, earning her No. 7 all-time at UNC, and finished 15th in the finals. Samantha Armand also set a personal best in the 200 IM, breaking into the Top 10 at UNC.
Mary Macaulay, the school record holder in the 200 IM, placed eighth with a time of 1:56.28. The Tar Heels are set to continue their push with prelims resuming on Thursday morning.
In the relay events, UNC's women's team, featuring K. Meskill, E.
Goettsch, M. Headley, and M.
Chokureva, finished 12th in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.20. The men's team, powered by Setzer's record-breaking leadoff, finished ninth with a time of 1:16.29, meeting the NCAA provisional standard.
