Hubert Davis Hints at Caleb Wilson's Return for UNC Basketball

Coach Hubert Davis shares encouraging news on Caleb Wilson's recovery, as UNC prepares for the final stretch of the season.

The UNC Tar Heels have managed to secure victories in three of their last four games without their standout freshman, Caleb Wilson. However, the team is eager to have the projected top-five NBA draft pick back on the court soon.

During his weekly radio show at Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery, UNC coach Hubert Davis shared some encouraging news about Wilson's recovery. "He would play tonight, if I would let him," Davis revealed, highlighting Wilson's eagerness to return to action.

The coach added that Wilson is improving daily, with another doctor's visit scheduled to reassess his return timeline. If all goes well, fans might see him back in the lineup shortly.

The 18th-ranked Tar Heels, boasting a 22-6 record overall and 10-5 in the ACC, are gearing up for their final three regular-season games. They face Virginia Tech next at the Smith Center, a matchup set to air on ESPN2.

Wilson has been sidelined since fracturing his left hand in a game against Miami on February 10. Despite the setback, he's been actively involved with the team, participating in light pregame shooting while wearing a splint. Before his injury, the 6-foot-10 forward was a force on the court, leading UNC with an average of 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

Coach Davis praised Wilson not only for his on-court skills but also for his enthusiasm and support from the bench. "I hope people have noticed and can see what he's doing on the bench," Davis commented. Wilson's energy and engagement have been a testament to his character, as he remains a vocal and supportive teammate.

In Wilson's absence, players like Jarin Stevenson and Zayden High have stepped up to fill the gap. Stevenson is averaging 12 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while High contributes 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds. Henri Veesaar has also made an impact, averaging 15.5 points over the last two games.

Wilson is focused on maintaining his conditioning through weightlifting and non-contact drills, ensuring he's ready to hit the ground running once cleared to play. With the postseason approaching, the Tar Heels are hopeful to have their freshman sensation back in action, adding another layer of excitement to their already promising season.
