Chapel Hill Update: Tar Heels on the Mend
The North Carolina Tar Heels are inching closer to having their full roster back on the court. Recent injuries have sidelined their top two scorers, Henri Veesaar and Caleb Wilson, but there's hope on the horizon.
Veesaar and Wilson were both injured during a game against Miami earlier this month. Wilson, who boasts an impressive average of 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, has been out with a fracture in his left hand. Meanwhile, Veesaar, the team's second-leading scorer with 16.3 points and 8.5 rebounds, missed two games due to a lower-body injury and illness.
In recent victories over Syracuse and Louisville, Veesaar's performance was somewhat subdued, suggesting he wasn't fully recovered. However, he's now declared himself back to full health, stating, "I'm definitely 100 percent, able to practice and play without any pain."
Wilson's situation remains a bit more uncertain. It's been over two weeks since his hand injury was diagnosed via X-ray.
While he's making progress, his return hinges on upcoming imaging results. Coach Hubert Davis shared on his radio show, "He would play tonight if I would let him.
He just wants to be out on the court badly. We have another doctor's visit later this week to reevaluate."
There's buzz around the program that Wilson might make his comeback in the highly anticipated game against Duke. However, the final call will be made by the medical staff, based on the latest imaging.
For the Tar Heels, getting these key players back could be pivotal as they push deeper into the season. Fans are certainly eager to see their stars back in action, and the team is hopeful for a swift return to full strength.
